Character Information
Name: Lukas Vikingstad (Kingdom of Norway)
Canon Origin/Series: Axis Powers: Hetalia
School Year: 6th
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Out of school living location: Yorkshire, with his younger brother and elderly grandmother.
Blood status: Unknown.

Personality:
As a boy of few words and less expression, Lukas comes across as little more than cold and mysterious, preferring to spend time in his own company rather than that of others. In reality ... well, in reality, he is cold and mysterious, and disdains the idea of needing anyone but himself. He has the tendency to seem like he's literally not entirely there: he speaks softly and distantly, in a constantly distracted manner, appearing to only half-notice anything going on around him, and some of the things he says don't entirely make sense. Familiar with neither the Muggle nor the Wizarding world, Lukas stands out even after seven years of life at Hogwarts, seeing little differences between them - the only thing the Wizarding world has going for it is that it doesn't call him crazy when he talks to his fairies - thus treating Muggleborns, half-bloods, and pure-bloods all with the same sense of reservedness.

His apathy keeps other people from bothering him, which is exactly part of why it's there at all: making sure no one talks to him means he doesn't have to talk to anyone else, and for a proud and surprisingly introverted young man, it's the perfect way of dealing with a world he doesn't feel he belongs in anyway. Still, while he prefers to avoid interaction with people he doesn't know, he remains coolly polite to anyone who talks to him unless they cross one of his mysterious boundaries. Though he is quiet, he is also very proud, and he isn't one to let others speak for him - rather, if someone (or a certain person) tries to, he quickly and bluntly shuts them down.

But as unlikely as it seems considering his emotionless appearance, even around strangers he is unflinchingly critical, especially with the annoying guy who calls him his best friend. With people he comes to know, he becomes more able to express himself, and shows himself to be a pretty intense guy with a scary kind of atmosphere...

Canon Background:
WHAT CANON.
Okay, really, there is very little Hetalia canon available for Norway, as both strips he appears in are exclusively gag comics, the first of which shows him criticizing Denmark for being a loud salesman, and the second showing him bluntly demanding that Iceland now refer to him as "big bro"... and also strangling Denmark with his own tie for speaking out (something he repeats in the Hetalia Fantasia drama CD, complete with annoyed remarks about equipping Denmark with all the cursed items.) Until more is shown, it's a logical assumption that Norway's history follows that of the nation itself.

Background (AU!Canon; HP):
dirtyTo say that Lukas' childhood was unusual would be an understatement. Raised by his eccentric grandmother on the outer forest area in Molde, Lukas has only the vaguest memory of his parents at all. His questions regarding his history were never met with the same answer - sometimes he was a changeling, a fairy child left behind for his gran to care for; sometimes his mother was a huldra, or his father was a nykk, or his own grandmother was a troll.

From a young age he had always been able to see the magical creatures that normally hid from people, cementing his belief in his grandmother's stories that he wasn't entirely normal, and he was content to play with the fairies that came to him, rather than the gossiping children of his village. Instead of becoming lonely, he became arrogant, shielding his shyness around strangers with the knowing sense that he was above them, that he was special and nothing so base as a human boy.

At the age of four he and his gran took a trip to Iceland, where she told him his mother had left another changeling from the fairy world to be Lukas' little brother. They adopted him, and spent the next few years in a village in Iceland. Later, when he was around six years old, his grandmother inexplicably chose to uproot them from their little cottage and move to Yorkshire, where she enrolled the brothers in primary school for the first time. As the new student with no previous social experience, he predictably shunned and was shunned by all but one of the other children - and he would much have preferred to be shunned by him too, rather than deal with this new loud annoyance dragging him around the school and introducing him as his best friend ever (Lukas was quick to reassure these people that he had just met the boy this morning, and they were not friends.) Still, through a series of mishaps, pranks, and shenanigans, Lukas came to tolerate the odd friendship, even sometimes referring to his irritating companion as "bro."

He had never heard of Hogwarts, but when his acceptance letter came he took it all quite calmly - after all, it only made sense that there would be a special school for special children like him. (Imagine his disdainful surprise upon learning that his friend too was accepted - not only accepted, but that he'd known about it all along.) In a quiet bout of nationalistic pride, Lukas' grandmother insisted he get his wand done in Norway, which led him to suspect that she too may have known about it all along.

His Hogwarts career proved to be a little better than his time in Muggle public school, in part because the students were so busy with their own magical ineptitude that Lukas was able to successfully ignore and be ignored. With the exception of whatever insanity his friend drags him into, Lukas has managed to maintain his quiet neutrality in his own little corner of the school. diana

How would your character fit in to each House?
&gryffindor; courage, nerve, bravery, good old fashioned chivalry. More fitting is the unspoken trait of arrogance, which Lukas has in spades, although he's much more quiet about it than would be typical. His nerve is of the resolutely irritated kind, and he isn't at all the kind of person to back down from anything, but he is typically neutral, keeping himself out of any conflicts that might arise.

&ravenclaw; wit, intelligence, learning, creativity. Having no specific desire to interact with the other students of his school, Lukas applies himself very well to his studies, and often displays a great deal of talent for Charms and complex spells. While not necessarily the brainy bookwork type, he nevertheless shows great imagination in his desire to constantly improve his knowledge, and when unsatisfied with the current curriculum he prefers to take the initiative and teach himself more advanced subjects on his own rather than wait for the rest of the class to catch up. His wit is sharp and harsh, but generally reserved for those who work to earn his ire.

&slytherin; resourcefulness, ambition, leadership, cunning, being a pure blood. The pureblood requirement scratches Lukas right out, as he isn't actually sure he's fully human, let alone having pure magical blood, not that he cares in the slightest. His ambition is almost entirely internally focused, wanting to better himself for his own sake rather than rise to any sort of power or gain recognition. Rather than the take-charge kind, he is no less of a follower sort, and is instead the type to veer off in his own direction and keep to himself. His resourcefulness, though, probably comes as a surprise for those who don't know him terribly well, as his cleverness at turning things to his favor is subtle and careful.

&hufflepuff; loyalty, fair play, hard work, tolerance. Most of Lukas' honesty is the brutal kind, and his tolerance comes in one flavor: indifference. In general, Lukas admires loyalty, and he's the type of person to be willing to stick by someone, but he doesn't show affection and he prefers to be alone rather than stay beside someone and so his brand of loyalty is a strange and inscrutible one. And as long as everyone works hard at sticking to their own work and leaving him well enough alone, he's perfectly content with anything, and outside of the people he's unintentionally allowed to get close, he has a surprisingly long and patient fuse.

Sample Journal Entry:
[ most of the page is taken up by surprisingly detailed ink sketches of people with huge jewel-like wings, or tiny old men with beards past their knees. ]

The forest has been talking, recently. I think there shall be a unicorn born there soon.

Don't be so foolish as to try and go in to see it.

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person:
Peace and silence are all Lukas needs, and he'll never find it on the grounds or in the castle if his schoolmates could help it - and they clearly did. It is vexing, but neither unexpected nor unprepared-for, and Lukas has already shunned the library in favor of another, quieter place.

His friend had declared that they could study in the Astronomy towers together, and Lukas' repeated rejections had fallen on deaf ears - but he had to admit that the Astronomy towers were the best places to practice spells one didn't want others to know were being practiced, so he agreed finally to use one. He simply didn't say which one of the three. Now he purposely turns to the left and scales the steps to the secondary tower. It means he'll at least get a few good tries in before his friend finally figures out he isn't coming.

Carefully peering out the windows every dozen steps or so, he waits until the sight from the tower reachs an almost umbearably dizzying height to set his bag down on the stairs, pulling out five empty ink bottles to arrange on the windowsill.

He reaches for his wand, tucked behind his ear, and gestures silently with it at the bottle on the far right - wordlessly levitating it out the window into a figure eight before bringing it back. Nonverbal spells were easy, he'd figured them out back in fourth year, but it was always better to start with what you knew before moving on to something unknown.

After the bottle touches back down, he puts his wand in his bag, and moves his bag several steps above him - making sure his wand couldn't be too close . He'd read that advanced wizards didn't even need them...

He stares expressionlessly at the middle bottle, willing for it to float. It's just like nonverbal spells, only channeled through will rather than wood... Difficult for normal wizards, but then he's not any normal wizard, is he...?

Is the bottle shaking? Lukas forces himself not to blink, in case that might break his concentration -

"Oi, Luuukaaaaas! Ya here!?"

One by one, all five bottles shatter. How annoying.
