I agree! That's my favorite quote from the entire Matrix trilogy.

From a psychological standpoint, many religions enable their devout worshipers with a "better than thou" attitude.

The promise of one day ascending to some wonderful, magical place makes for little concern with the here and now of our planet and its billions of other inhabitants. I mean come on, Earth or Heaven?

The surest thing in life is right under our feet, and yet so many people wait for their death to go somewhere even better.

That wouldn't surprise me in the least. The god described in the bible is particularly vindictive. Maybe we're his/her laughing pawns.
