well, i had both redone for really stupid reasons. the ultimate cause of my tears was an unbalance in the development on my leg muscles. i over developed my quads without working on the stabilizing muscles and the ligaments could not handle it.
Used to do karate/kickboxing, was kickboxing one of those huge sandbag things (the kind that pop back up after you knock them down) on a cruise ship. First night of the cruise (last family cruise ever too), underestimated some meds I was on, and my knee just gave out when I landed on it. Sucked pretty bad. In the months after injuring it before surgery, occassionally it would just die on me, so no apparent reason.
I made friends with the concrete. Though I was lucky, no miniscus (sp?) tears, and easy to fix. I've just got really loose joints to begin with (my joints had 7mm and 15 mm (obviously the torn one) of give, they're supposed to have 2-3mm). I tore the ligaments in my elbow too, but those didn't need surgery (elbow ligaments can heal themselves since they're not IN joint fluid like in the knee).
Found you from your comments in erindelicious's journal, and I'm a horse dude also. (Ben, Smoke, and Frecks). I also would like to do a DVM (eventually), and I'm taking bio. What year are you in?
I'm halfway through my second year... DVM is a slight possibility for me, as I'm a foreign student (fucking Canadian), but I'm double majoring in zoo science and biology with a minor in either finance or economic policy. Then I get to apply to the 16 schools in the country who have limited spaces for people like me (foreign nationals)
Are you at University of Alberta (wild guess, considering your info)?
Also, I'll warn you now, I post way too much. Generally long entries too :c)
Saw you in the Pensacola community and saw that you were going to be moving up here! It sucks to be in a new place without any friends...so if you want to make one in me, feel free to get a hold of me...add me if you want...I'll add back...

Adam showed me some pics of you guys a long time ago (one where you, Sanjay and him are sitting there making gang signs), and noticed your knees..
I had my ACL done a little over 4 years ago, what'd they do you for?
