Depressed, and of the impression failure means he's going to die anyway (it happened with the wall, why not Sif's hair?) Loki lets the dwarves cut off his head.

Asgard receives a casket with magnificent presents and a headless jotun corpse. Everyone thinks it's the best tribute ever until Thor starts to notice that Frigga won't stop crying and no one can find Loki.

Fandral might scream like a frighten maiden, but the real danger is Sif getting a fright and kicking Loki's head clear over the edge of Asgard and into the sea.

When Thor comes back to himself, he is covered in blood and none of the dwarves are alive. He looks down stunned at his hands. He raises his gaze to his father.

“I killed them,” he says.

Odin nods his head. “Good,” he says.

YES, GOOD. *sobs beyond forever*
