Marco.. Polo

These kids are playing in their pool a few houses away and I can hear them playing Marco Polo. I don't understand how this game works, who wins, who loses or what the purpose of it is. I understood it as a way to locate people through sound but I can see them and they can certainly see each other.

but anyway. one person (whose "it") has their eyes closed and has to tag someone and the only way they have to locate you is by saying marco and the others saying polo...when they get someone, that person is "it" and gameplay resumes.
