Contractors needed

I'm looking for a few reliable, affordable companies near Clayton that do a great job with floor installation (both carpeting and hardwoods or maybe laminates), possibly painting and repair on some millwork. Have you had an experience (good or bad) with an individual or company that you can share with me?

Oh, I had to look and see where Clayton is. My husband is an installer but we are in Asheville. My tip to you would be to avoid Home Depot and Lowes. I know some will say they have great experiences with these companies but also when things go wrong it is generally also from these two companies. They pay so low and treat their (subcontractors) employees badly that only the "hacks" ,as the industry calls them, would ever work for them unless they were desperate and didn't have any work elsewhere. A good installer almost always has work though even through these bad economy times. There's always insurance jobs or repairs to float between the big jobs. HD and Lowes also have manufactures produce special lines for them which aren't made as well as the same line for another company- like Carpet One. This is so they can sell the product at a cheaper rate. Since you mention painting and woodwork too you may want to consider a place like Benjamin Moore or Sears. BM has flooring installers in some areas and if they don't they can refer you to ( ... )
