My obnoxiously long review of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

I warn you now; spoilers abound. If you haven't read the book, or don't want to know the changes the movie makes turn back.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is both my favorite and my least favorite of the Harry Potter books. I automatically leave the first two out of the running, because to be honest I hate those two. I struggled through ( Read more... )

you missed a couple of more bitches of mine. were was the swamp. Fred and George do the damage before the OWLs. Also Kreacher's hiding spot with all of his possessions. This is hugely important.

You know, between you and Luna I'm starting to wish I'd gotten past whichever of the books I never got past. Third one maybe? Y'all are so passionate about this! I love it!

Oh my god, seriously, watch the first three movies and then just read like the fourth, fifth and sixth book! I LOVE THOSE BOOKS! I don't like the first two AT ALL, and I liked the third mostly because Sirius is in it and he's absolutely my favorite character!! But the last three (and hopefully this last one!) rock! I really like them! Her writing grows with the reader and the characters, so it's better writing as you go along.

I think I just have really piss poor luck getting into series. I couldn't get past book 2 of the Wheel of Time, and I know all you guys love that series. I'll have to sweet talk someone into lending me those and the later Potter books so I can give them another go. I'm putting most of my books in storage when we move (hopefully we'll only be in that apt a year or two, then find a house, and I LOATHE AND DESPISE re-packing and unpacking and rearranging books EVERY STUPID YEAR) so I shouldn't feel too overwhelmed tackling some series stuff on top of everything else I try to fit time in to read. :)

Yeah, most of my problem was that I just couldn't get into her writing in the first two or three books. I'm a sucker for style and hers just seemed .. eh .. but it makes sense that it would mature as she progresses. Intrigued.

lol

the intelligence level of the books does increase with each book, as amanda mentions THANKFULLY

though her style does sometimes bother me. she writes from this partially omniscient pov. like you obv. get all the thoughts and feelings from harry, but every once in a while you'll get feelings of other characters and then a few minutes later it will be like "but no one knew what he was thinking..." or some such nonesense. um, hi we knew what he was thinking a minute ago but now we dont? just annoying, imho.

READ THEM HOLY JESUS!!!!!!!

Off-topic, but Des, I tried to tell you through your lj that I'd changed user names, like you asked me to update you when I had (this is Nikki) but it wouldn't let me cause your lj is set to replies by friends only. So I'm updating you! Feel free to friend me if you like & I'll reciprocate.

PS. Congrats on the AMDA acceptance! I tried to leave a comment to that effect when you posted that, but again it wouldn't let me. :(

Oh my god I think I would sacrifice my first born if they would give me back Colombus! I don't hate this movie, just the last twenty minutes of it. But I don't think it's the best yet and I don't love it! I want the end to be the way it should, damn it! How could they fuck up Sirius dying?!?! Ugh!

CHRIS COLUMBUS!! COME BACK TO ME!!!

Oh my god, I can't hate Snape! I want to, but I can't. I honestly believe that Dumbledore made him promise to do it. I really do. I have a big rant about it on myspace that I think you read. So I can't hate him.

I am a Snape lover. I can't help it.

Idk i've read lots of thoughts on that theory, but I just dont see it contextually. I guess we shall find out in a few days!!

lol i actually read a theory last night that someone was proposing Bellatrix was in the Order. LOL that both she & snape (Voldie's two closest allies) were double agents. they are the most skilled at occulmency so they can hide their true alliances, and two that harry hates the most. but he hates them because Dumbledore makes him hate them - ie: Dumbledore has them kill the two ppl closest to harry (sirius & dumbledore himself) - so that Voldie sees them as truly on his side (because harry loathes them)

i was like uhhhhhhhhh NO lol the jury is still out on snape, but Bella??? NOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ew I hate that theory. Bellatrix has been in fucking Azkaban for like... ever. These people are stupid. Bella being a member of the Order. Pfft. Stupid people!

Anyway...

I think that contextually the explanation and backing of Snape being a good guys is totally there!!
