As a straight white conservative Republican male who believes that homosexual behavior is immoral and who loves Thes to death, I just have to reply to everything you mentioned here :-)
1) Twitter is really dumb. I only have an account because some of my friends use it as their primary way of keeping up. It's like why I'm on facebook. LiveJournal is what I prefer. 2) I think that marriage should be handled privately as a religious and contractual issue, and that the government need not have any role in recognizing marriages. Marriage benefits were first instituted to make it easier to have and raise children -- we can still provide those benefits to people raising children, regardless of marital status, parenthood, etc. What do I care if the government recognizes my marriage or not? That said, I'm glad the court chose to uphold Proposition 8, because overturning it would appear to undermine democratic institutions. But truth be told, I'll never be able to recognize a gay marriage as a marriage in the fullest sense of the word,

Twitter - I use Twitter mainly as a way of updating my Facebook status while I'm moving. That's nice because sometimes people just want to know that I'm waiting for a train.
Gay rights - the thing about gay rights organisations is that their whole existence requires the continued existence of the forms of discrimination and prejudice they're ostensibly trying to abolish.
