File association. Though you should be able to arrow down to what type you want when you go and "save as" when you right click on a picture from the net. It also depends on what picture viewing program you have installed as well. Thought there’s one in the Microsoft suite Renee lent you I think (That’s if you still have it of course. O.o). It’s the one I'm using and I haven't had any problems at all. And I got all sorts of types of pictures on my computer.

I figured it would save as whatever the picture already was when I found it on the net. But only bmp's come up which most of the pictures obviously aren't.

I have Adobe and Paint Shop Pro installed, which I had on my other computer as well. Hmm.
