It was just supposed to be a duel. A simple, goddamned, I-beat-you-and-take-the-program duel.
One minute he was relishing the shock on Robert's face as Blood Mephist appeared on the field. The next minute, Bolger was the one rendered mute with surprise as Mephist's final attack hit the older man square on, knocking him into a shelf that toppled over him and pinning him down. He must have surely broken something.
Dread and fear blossomed in his stomach as he heard the loud boom of an explosion, and while his thoughts were filled with prayers for it not being real, just the Solid Vision, that cold rational part of him knew that he'd been screwed over again. That he had trusted in the wrong people again. Not completely, mind you, but enough so that he'd used the card...what was he thinking ( ... )

And that is my Bolger headcanon forever. With his stupid, skewed ideas of loyalty and what's right tangled up with massive trust issues and Faustian bargains never end well. For anyone.
And Edward is just a precious cheerleader, and I still think he has a hidden insecure streak of his own and needs all the hugs and ugh.
