Late Night Short Film, Anyone?
La Jetée (The Jetty)
A bittersweet short film from France, 1962. If I haven't read the wiki article beforehand I might not have gotten all of it, because it's all a montage! I still can't decide if I would rather see it or read it. In its fragmentation, it loses some of the melodrama and cheesiness that's almost unavoidable in "happy couple" scenes. Those would surely soil the story. I think there are advantages to having it in black and white too. The film's mostly a man wandering in his memories, or about his past, so it's pretty apt. It also makes the movie look pretty bleak, which well, it is. But it's also very disjointed this way. @_@
