I get the YD"N" headlines every day, and this morning found myself reading this article.

when i lived on the 6th floor of sm, i took elevators every chance i had. i'm not sure why, since i had two legs excellently conditioned for stair climbing. one morning, beth said to me, "last night i dreamed that we had an elevator."

but now that i don't have to walk up 106 stairs to get home, i'm far more willing to walk up stairs elsewhere.

The moving sidewalk is man's crowning achievement (with a close second being the moving ramp, which I've only seen at IKEA). It's the electronic realization of the flying carpet. It speeds you up while cooling you down. It expands your speed capability while still allowing you to control your own pace. How can you hate on it? Woe betide the fool who rejects it in favor of walking on stationary ground ( ... )
