I never quite got whether we were celebrating stopping people who mostly weren't called Fawkes or celebrating the fact that they tried. Maybe it's just me who isn't sure about that, but still, it's all a bit ambiguous.
(Incidentally, one of the google ad things, that's shown up on this page because I haven't logged in, says "Why am I fat? Parasites living inside you. Don't believe it? See for real." For some reason this offends me more than any of the normal weight loss adverts (it distresses me that google thinks I'm interested in these - is it trying to tell me something?). Apart from anything else, seriously chaps, why on earth would a parasite make you fatter? God, people are stupid.)
That ad disturbs me too, but I'm inclined to think that anyone who falls for it probably deserves to get ripped off. I tend to get annoyed at the one that says 'Are you single?' and has 'yes' and 'no' buttons. I'm guessing it's for a dating agency that assumes if you're single you must need this terrible disease curing immediately. I wonder what happens if you click 'no'. Do they perhaps invite you to cheat on your partner?
Seriously, I generally find weight loss adverts disturbing (and I get them all the time so it's not just you). They all claim to have the wonderful and mysterious secret nobody else has, which I suspect may just be a great big con. I don't really think there's any big secret at all, and I certainly didn't need one.
(good thing it's virtual, I'm draggin' from staying up last night, heh heh!)
Happy Guy Fawkes Day and bonfires galore! (Always fun with bonfires, unless you drop your bag of marshmallows in it. But then, fun to watch them turn into little sugar volcanoes, so hey, still fun... :) )
I so want to have a print copy of McCain's concession speach, that was amazing. Missed hearing that from him.
And from someone born in Springfield Illinois (where we have lots of statues of shiny-nosed Lincolns) I'd like to link: http://www.nps.gov/liho/ Lincoln's Home, where he left to become president. My Grandma always took us there (and to his tomb, which is just awe-inspiring), since she'd been born and raised there too, and it's amazing today, having been raised on what he said and did then and see it happen now, I'll tell ya. :)
Been a long time since I was proud to be from Illinois... :)
