Our lady German shepherd is now eating walnuts in the shell - can anyone tell me why?

Because dogs are WEIRD.

Because she's a dog. And they're crunchy.

I did some searching. The meat of walnuts are OK for dogs to eat. However, the shells can cause serious, life-threatening damage anywhere along the digestive track. Some sites report that the chemicals in walnut shells can even cause anaphylaxis in dogs. Perhaps you should make sure lady Shepherd doesn't eat any more shells.
