Computer update: new computer now won't be delivered until Tuesday, alas. I am doing crazy things with the power cord of this damn mostly dead laptop in the hopes it won't hibernate in the middle of a sentence, but since I don't know how long this will last I'm doing both SV and SPN reactions in one entry and they'll be brief (even though both eps really deserve more analysis)

Ok, starting with the shallow:

1. The magnificent bastard is back, in an even more magnificent incarnation! OMG, I knew the premise of this episode but I didn't know Lionel was STAYING! I'm so excited I don't even know what to say!!

2. Holy crap, I never shipped Clark/Tess before, but I TOTALLY do now--especially dark Clark/red-haired stepchild Tess. What an awesome Luthorcest pairing. Please, please, please, please, please tell me someone is writing this RIGHT NOW. Especially if you throw Lex in the mix (and BRANDING omg). Surely they all faked his death in the alternaworld just as part of some long game with Lionel, and really they're the most awesome Luthorcest threesoe ever, right?

3. And speaking of me cheating on my Clark/Lois love, I adored getting to see Lois with Ollie in the alternaverse, because I really do love that pairing, so it pleases me that it at least exists in another universe.

And for the slightly less shallow

4. I agree with serrico that the "Luthor evil is in the blood" line Clark was spouting at the beginning was out of character for him, but I'm glad he retracted it at the end. In fact, I loved that whole final conversation with Tess, and her discussing her motives for trying to save Alexander because she has no other family. *Squishes Tess*

5. I love when we get to see characters be SMART, so it really pleased me that both Clark and Tess figured out the alternative universe thing and played their roles well so early in the episode. (Tess might have stocked up on the kryptonite--but maybe she did, given that there was clearly a big battle going on when the real Clark beamed back). I thought our Clark did a very good job negotiating the alternaworld given he had no real allies there.

6. The shoutouts to the Lionel-Lex relationship were awesomesauce, especially the swordfight. It was like the best AU fanfic.

7. BRANDING. (Oh, sorry, that's back in the shallow end of the pool.)

8. Ollie as the "evil" tycoon in the alternaverse is fascinating--destroying Smallville to get weapons against Clark. Smart, and a different type of self-sacrificing. (Though I will say I just kind of laughed at how Ollie must be angsty in every universe. He's really NOT Batman, SV writers, even if he is your substitute.)

9. Lionel, setting complicated traps for Clark while quoting Lear. Oh, Lionel, how on earth have we gotten along without your scenery-chewing villainy for so long? And JG, how do you just keep getting SEXIER all the time?

And now, Supernatural.

Starting with the shallow again

1. I really love this incarnation of Meg, and am strangely compelled by the idea of Meg/Castiel. I was very happy that she survived in the end; while I was sorry to see Crowley go, as he has been a good villain, it turns out I like Meg's villainy more. Especially this episode--she was just so droll in her black humor.

2. OMG, that scene of Castiel watching porn (and then using the techniques later) is drawn from a hundred fanfics, and yet it was SO MUCH FUNNIER to watch, as was Dean's response to him.

3. Badass Sam is BADASS. Using his own blood to make a devil's trap? DAMN.

4. Badass Castiel is also badass. I really thought he was bluffing about Crowley's bones. Goodbye Crowley, it was good to know you. (Are we to assume that all the major alphas are dead now? I wonder what the implications of this are for the plot, and if Meg is now going to be queen of hell, and if anyone will still be looking for purgatory.)

Ok, I had more to say but the computer is showing signs of dying again, so I'll stop there for now.
