BtVS, comics and Time Phenomena (sorta meta-ish)

I am somewhat irritated by season 8 as a whole and for a while been trying to figure out - WHY?

For comparisons reason i alternated in rewatching old episodes (mostly S1 and S7 to get a feel for the start as well as the end of the TV series) and reading new comics.

At least i did discover something (probably trivial and you all figured it out long ( Read more... )

This is a really fantastic point. I'm sure there's all sort of mathly stuff one could do to study this, but numbers aren't my thing, so what you've got here absolutely works for me.

I've only seen this sort of thing briefly touched upon, so I'm glad you really ran with it here. Thanks!

Thank you. And yes, one could do a spoken line count, a scene count on the shows (thanks, Gabs!) and compare it to the comics to get a more accurate estimate how long each comic issue is vs. how long a TV episode is. Well, maybe once Gabs finished her work a more "mathy" comparison is rather easy.

Yes! It's just another reason to be out of sync with the story. TV time works in tandem with real time. But the comics are existing in an ephemeral time continuum. We cannot reach it, understand it, and the professionals tell us it's not important (Allie has said this repeatedly).

So... Meh.

Yeah, i think it is one of the reasons why i'm not emotionally atached to the (comic) characters anymore. While i'm still very much invested in Buffy (bless her!) the comic characters just don't enthrall me like the live actors did. Probablecylon wrote another piece of the puzzle in Maggie's thread: http://2maggie2.livejournal.com/17625.html?thread=579801#t579801
