For an arbitrary Hallmark holiday, it ain't half bad.

Well, it's Valentine's Day today, and thanks to an Anonymous Benefactor a lot of us in the fandom woke up to a terrific surprise: tailor-made snippets featuring our favourite pairing/subject matter! I received a "star" v-gift, as well as this lovely little snippet (set on a beach! Eeeee! It's the sequel I still haven't written, and it's perfect).

One year, Ray took him to the beach. Made all the arrangements, bought the tickets and packed their suitcases. It was the middle of a cold, snowy Canadian winter and Ray took him to the beach.

It was a new experience for Fraser. He'd never been to a beach like this, all fine white sand, green-blue water and heat. Ray bullied him into his swim trunks, slathered sunscreen on him and carried a huge beach umbrella out to a secluded spot, claiming it for the Dominion of Canada.

Fraser spent as much time as he could drowsing in the heat. When the warmth got to be too much, he threw himself into the blue crystal waters to cool off. They spent two short weeks there in the sun and the sand. Years later, Fraser would still remember that trip with fondness.

Thank you so much, Anonymous! This made my morning!

scarfe and I did the Valentine's thing early this morning when we were still all pyjama-clad and sleepy, since he has to teach late tonight and I've got swimming lessons until 9pm. He gave me a card with a Chiuaua and a kitten snuggling on the cover, and on the inside it said, "In our own weird way, we work. Happy Valentine's Day." scarfe added: "We work swell! I love you more than anything. -Love, Aaron". D'awww. (He also suggested it would be an appropriate F/K card, which filled me with fannish glee). I gave him a card with flowers and sparkles, because he hates sparkles and I try to rib him about that when I can. Inside I wrote about undying love and intense devotion and such, but it was pretty damn sappy and so I'll spare you all the gruesome details. I gave him a box of chocolates too, which both pleased and defeated him because it's tough to contemplate that much sugar at 6:30am.

We're planning to do a romantic dinner/movie thing tomorrow night, and I think we'll see There Will Be Blood because nothing says, "love and romance" like Daniel Day Lewis in a handlebar moustache.

In other news, meresy has officially decided to come to bitchinparty! We figured out the travel logistics last night, and I think she'll be purchasing her plane tickets today. Guys, this is SO awesome! I adore meresy, and the fact that she's coming the con just made BP that much better. We're going to get a hotel room Wednesday night in Toronto since neither of us will be able to make it to the airport in time for our 8am Thursday flight, and it'll be a nice precursor to all that fannish glee we'll experience in Seattle. Plus, y'know, safety in numbers and all that. It'll be much easier to brave the scary American border security guards in Vancouver with a fellow Canuck.

And speaking of fannish glee, how great is this fandom? We've got smoking hot porn from dessert_first, a visual example of RayK's hotness thanks to j_s_cavalcante (NSFW), fabulous new podfic recordings from zabira and luzula, and great meta from china_shop and slidellra. China's meta in particular caught my attention: she's asking about Fraser's mental state in S3 and S4, and I plan to steal her shiny ideas for the "Will the Real Fraser Please Step Forward?" meta discussion panel I volunteered to run at bitchinparty. Guys, meta terrifies me. I can never seem to come to any firm conclusions about any of the characters, particularly one as twisty-brained as Fraser. I hope you'll all be willing to do the heavy lifting; I'll sit in my mod chair and nod occasionally, 'kay?
