[Guess what time it is, Vatheon?]

[INTROSPECTIVE PHILOSOPHY TIME WITH JACOB, OF COURSE. Seriously, what were you thinking it was going to be.]

[Today, Jacob seems to be finishing up the last details of a illustration he's sewing onto a piece of cloth. He looks up from his work, a questioning glance in his eyes.]

I don't get it. How can something like that protect anything?

It was the symbol of eternal life, one that was supposedly used by the gods themselves. People believed that this symbol would be able to protect them from evil as well.

But that doesn't make any sense. A symbol can't do anything. Its just a piece of paper.

Perhaps. But maybe the belief in such a symbol was enough to provide protection on it's own.

It's the same way with religion. Some argue that gods do not exist, but for other the belief in these gods or god make them feel safe. Protected.

For me, I'd have to say it's people. A certain Doctor long ago changed me and it's him who I keep as my moral compass.

Though, there are others too.

People can be great guardians. This Doctor person sounds very influential, though. How did he change you for the better, if I may ask?

[Hesitating a second.]

I was a coward and a con man, now I'd like to think I couldn't be farther away from those two descriptions.

That's good. When a person changes another person for the better, it's really something amazing to see.

Do I?

[A slight smile.] Well, it's not as if anyone has never asked them in the first place.

I suppose....no one's asked me before.

Do you really want to know?

Of course I want to know. That is why I asked.

Oh, I remember seeing that symbol somewhere before! It's Egyptian, right?

For me, it's a person. My brother is the one who protects and helps me...

Yes, it's Egyptian. It's one of my most favorite periods in time.

It's good to have a family member who protects you. I know most people do, in any case. You always protect the ones you love.

Superheroes, mostly.

Mostly?

Yes, superheroes can certainly be guardians of the peace. It's their duty.

Well, yeah, mostly, since they can't answer every call. So there's also police, firemen and the like.

People who are meant to protect others. They're guardians in their own right, I agree with that.
