[Guess what time it is, Vatheon?]

[INTROSPECTIVE PHILOSOPHY TIME WITH JACOB, OF COURSE. Seriously, what were you thinking it was going to be.]

[Today, Jacob seems to be finishing up the last details of a illustration he's sewing onto a piece of cloth. He looks up from his work, a questioning glance in his eyes.]

What protects you, people of Vatheon?

A lot of things protect me. For the fact that...I am.... I live in the best country in the world! There is nothing for me to fear.

Though, that looks like a cross?

That's good, that you feel safe. For if you didn't, it'd mean you'd be in a lot of trouble.

No, it's an ankh. It's from Egypt. I guess it is like a cross, in a way.

Well that's a given. Anyone feels like they are in a heap of trouble if they don't feel safe. It puts doubt and fear into ones mind.

Ah, from Egypt. Never quite got to visit that country to often.

And doubt and fear lead to nothing but panic and chaos. It takes another person or thing to pull someone through something like that.

It's a beautiful country. I especially liked the pyramids.

[Aqua quietly contemplates his question, her fingers pressed against her lip in quiet thought. Out of his view, she glances down to her hands and cradles her Wayfinder.]

Friendship. Those I hold close to my heart are my protection.

That is one of the best forms of protections one can have. We would be nothing without our friends.

Hmmm... [She chuckles softly but there is a sadness in her smile. Ven... Terra... She's been separated from her two best friends for so long. She wished she could see them again.]

You speak the truth. My best friends... they are everything to me. I...

... really miss them.

[He smiles, sympathy practically written in his eyes. He understand you, Aqua. He knows how much it hurts.]

And I'm sure they miss you too. But your bond will always keep you connected, no matter how far you are. Remember that.

I never put much stock in symbols myself, though I know people who have or do so. I protect myself and have as of yet have not looked to anything else to do that task for me. However...

[There's a pause as he seems to think of something and after another moment's consideration, he continues.]

A friend of mine believes in a goddess from our planet...

I'm inclined to believe he found her since the last time I saw him he was dying of something with no known cure... and yet he stands here now from nearly ten years in my future, healthy and fully cured.

Hmmm. If the evidence is there, perhaps this goddess really does exist. Or maybe the belief in her cured him. It could go either way.

It's possible she might... there is a play from a poem which speaks of a Goddess from our world. My friend was a bit obsessed with it, and I admit I thought it nonsense at first. A whimsy of whomever wrote it...

[He falls quiet for a moment and then when he speaks again, it's as if the general's attention is split, distracted almost.]

When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end
The goddess descends from the sky
Wings of light and dark spread afar
She guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting

Infinite in mystery is the gift of the Goddess
We seek it thus, and take to the sky
Ripples form on the water's surface
The wandering soul knows no rest.

There is no hate, only joy
For you are beloved by the goddess
Hero of the dawn, Healer of worlds

Dreams of the morrow hath the shattered soul
Pride is lost
Wings stripped away, the end is nigh

[With the last of the word 'nigh', his attention refocuses on Jacob.] Loveless, Prologue through Act II...

[He listens to it carefully, taking in every word.]

It sounds like a beautiful play. Your friend must be quite taken with this goddess of his.

Do you believe in her, Sephiroth?
