Starter(s):

Sigilyph, Female 43 57

Natu, Male 49 89

History: Right over here!
Personality:

The most important thing about Jacob is that he is not a god.

Yes, he is immortal, and yes, he can influence people's destinies by simply touching them, but in the end, he is just as human as the survivors that he has brought to the island. Basically, Jacob is flawed, and he recognizes this. To the people he has met with, he seems to be a very kind and benevolent man whose forgiveness for others knows no bounds. He knows that people can do despicable things, like murder, but he holds it in his heart that humankind is essentially good. Therefore, he will give everyone a chance to redeem themselves, even if they were torturers or thieves or partners in crime. The only person in the world he can't bring himself to forgive, however, is his twin brother, who murdered their "mother" many years ago.

Before that incident, Jacob was a hot-headed young man who followed his mother's orders and basically acted like the kid who could do no wrong. He was rather jealous of his brother, mostly because his mother seemed to prefer him over Jacob. Even when his brother left them and went to live with the human beings, his mother still loved him over Jacob, producing resentment within his heart. His hidden anger came out when the murder happened, and Jacob didn't even hesitate to punish his brother for all eternity for what he had done by giving him a "fate worse than death".

Afterwards, however, Jacob's personality changed. His hot-headness went away to be replaced by a placid sort of calm and benevolence that he is known for today. His calm manner, however, can be quite cold at times, as he doesn't really show much emotion to the fact that people are dying under his jurisdiction. Al he cares about is proving the inherent goodness of the human race- if people have to die to show this, then so be it. But that doesn't mean he doesn't feel sympathy for those playing in the large game of good versus evil. He can feel pity and empathy towards them, because he knows that they, in the end, are just as flawed as he is. He will even apologize for his actions, because he believes that what he is doing is his responsibility. And, he won't lie and he never will lie to anyone- it's just not in his nature to do so.

Jacob also is very, very, hard to surprise. You could have a green elephant float in on a miniature handglider and Jacob wouldn’t bat an eye. He’s already seen many miraculous things back on the island, so he doesn’t really feel the need to show shock at anything. He merely takes in stride and learns as much as he can about it. Also, one of Jacob’s greatest weaknesses is how passive he is. If a fight breaks out in front of him, he’ll just stand calmly and watch it happen. It’s not his job to interfere. Therefore, to other people he can seem very aloof and even cold. That doesn't really win him many friends when it comes down to it. But Jacob will try his best to make people understand what he's trying to say, even if they'll never quite believe him. He has endless patience, after all.

But, the most important aspect of Jacob’s personality is that, in the end, he is nothing more than a man child. Having been brought up by his mother for more than thirty years, he’s been kept incredibly naïve and innocent throughout all the years he’s been alive. You will not hear a single insult or curse word come out of his mouth, and many things, like flirting or sex or drugs, just go over his head. He has never really interacted with people much, and is unfamiliar to most slang words. He’s like a blank slate, waiting to be written on by the influence of the world around him.

Jacob is not a god. But he tries his best to serve like one and give everyone around him the benefit of the doubt. It's his job, after all.

Powers & Abilities:
Jacob is "special". What does that mean, exactly? Well, he can't die of old age and he has some neat abilities that he uses in his job as guardian of the island. For example, he has a sort of omniscience about people- he knows who they are even before he really gets to know them. He can even see somewhat into a person's future . A noteworthy power of his is that whenever he touches someone through a handshake, a clasp of the shoulder, etc., the person he touches can experience anything from a change in the way of thinking to a push of their destinies in a particular direction. This power won't be as powerful as it was back where he came from, but he can definitely effect things somewhat if he decides to touch you. (Also, clothing has no effect on his touch or not. You could be wearing twelve layers of clothing and yet still feel a change.)

Jacob seems to be a very well-read person, and is shown in canon to be able to speak many languages. Even though he has had no formal education, it seems he has taught himself skills such as fishing, weaving tapestries, building, and other such things. He knows much about the human condition, and will always be willing to discuss philosophical questions with others. However, he doesn’t use technology that often- if he has to use it, he will, but mostly he’ll settle for the harder way of doing things instead of taking the easy way with a gadget. (Ex: He’ll look up a word in a book rather than using his PokeGear to find it quicker.) He’s not terribly strong- he just has the strength of a regular adult male, pretty much.

This place wasn’t his. He could tell that when he had opened his eyes that it wasn’t his. For one, the creatures sitting nearby his prone form were nothing that he had seen before.

He slowly got up in a sitting position, cocking his head inquisitively at the two like a curious bird. One seemed to be like a living form of the hieroglyphics that he often inscribed on his tapestries, and the other one appeared to be like a rather normal bird, but colored a shocking bright green.

What had happened? He had just confronted his brother about finally finding the loophole to kill him using the man named Benjamin Linus. Oh, Ben. Jacob really felt sympathy for the man. Even though he was a conniving manipulator who had killed others to reach the position of leader on the island, Jacob forgave him for everything. The man was weak, that was true, but Jacob honestly believed that he would choose wisely. And now he would never know.

Jacob shrugged slightly, reaching towards the creatures with a hand. Both seemed intrigued by his gesture, and approached it, nuzzling it slightly as if they were making their own observations. Jacob could sense these were not mere animals, like the boars and polar bears that roamed around on his island. No, these were much smarter than the average polar bear. He smiled slightly, rubbing each of them gently with a finger to show that he meant no harm.

“…Are you both mine?” He couldn’t help but ask. He felt as if he had been brought here for a purpose, perhaps to care for these strange new beings he had before him. How ironic. The guardian of the origin of all life and death had been selected to perform a task that involved looking over others. Perhaps there was another person like him here, who had saved him from death for this very purpose.

Jacob smiled. Of course he would help. How could he say no?

First-Person Sample:

Good morning.

[Today, fellow PokeNet users, you may find a seemingly simple-looking man making a video post on your screens. He isn’t dressed in anything too lavish, just a simple white long-sleeved shirt and black slacks. A Natu sits in his lap, and he strokes it occasionally, wide blue eyes staring into the camera as if he can see the people answering on the other side.]

I hope everyone is doing okay. It seems as if we have been brought here to take care of these creatures called Pokemon.

[A faint smile.] Or perhaps we are here for another purpose. Somebody decided that they need us to help them. But perhaps I’m thinking too much about it…it could be a simple coincidence that we were all brought here at the same time from different places and cultures and ways of life…

[He pauses, as if he’s letting the words sink in.] So, do you think this is our destiny, that we were brought here? Or do you think it’s merely chance, a role of the die, so to say, that snatched you away from the life you knew?

Are our choices made for us? Or are we the master of our choices? Think about it.

Anything else? JACOB IS TOTALLY NOT GOD NOPE. He loves you. Yes, even you.
