Jack’s heart leapt into his throat and his palms started to sweat as Ianto approached the cardboard box. One that was wriggling and emanating faint growl-like noises. He was starting to rethink sending Ianto into the alley. Maybe the Rift had deposited something big and nasty with equally big, nasty teeth during the spike.
His heart skipped a beat when Ianto stopped, holstered his gun, and reached into the box. Jack was halfway down the alley, weevil spray ready, when Ianto turned to him with a knowing smile, a small, scruffy puppy cuddled in his arms.
Jack chuckled in relief.
