This mechanism is obviously old. Rusted to a red color, it sits idle. I don't know what it is actually for. Maybe winching things up from the ponds? Dredgers perhaps? I wonder why you'd just leave it there to rot.
Huh, it doesn't look familiar to me, not that that means much. Leaving things to rot is the farm way, it seems, just leave broken things where they are. It is amazing what you can find under the blackberry bushes!
OOOooh, I love mysteries like this. My guess is a truck or trailer mounted winch, used to pull a vehicle or boat or elk carcass or a dead cow (because of where you live) into said truck or trailer to move it.
It is similar to that, but more substantial. It's on property used by the county for waste water reclamation. No boats in the water down below. So probably used to bring up machinery used to dig the ponds?. Then. Left there. It's about 100 feet down to the pond below and not something you could drive easy. It's super steep.
