Just about every building on the UW campus has its own little café inside. Sometimes I like to go to the architecture hall for my coffee. There are several reasons for this. Does this occur often? I cannot imagine it does. I mean I could see why I might be mistake for Amish...

Ever read "Life and Death of Great American Cities" by Jane Jacobs (who, sadly, died recently - last year I think)? Pretty much all of the "new urbanism" theories and practices can be traced back to her. Very interesting stuff. Sounds like the lecture you went to followed the same lines.

And no it's not the coffee...seriously, we're all just that cool and artistic and stuff ;)

One of the (few) good things about yuppies (I say in good fun) is that they fearlessly invade the inner cities and revitalize them. People complain about the gentrification, but I'm not so sure that it is such a bad thing.
