Dude! Ultimates fic! jazzypom March 20 2009, 08:01:56 UTC
Thor has had few genuine, loyal friends in his life, and he recognizes when he's found one. Tony doesn't have much time left, it's true. Thor isn't in love with him, but the type of love he does feel is just as deep, and it hurts terribly to think of losing Tony in such a way, and so soon. Thor is millennia old. Tony will never see his thirtieth birthday.

But Thor has him now, and that will have to be enough.

D'awww

But yes to a fic that has Ult Tony Stark's days are numbered. :*(

I like Stark's 'voice' in this fic. Oh Tony, why so irrepressible though.

I was very iffy about posting this, so I'm glad you liked it. :3 Ultimate Tony's voice is so different from 616 Tony's, so I'm pleased that I seem to have gotten it right.

Thank you so much for commenting. <3

Yeah, he's different from 616 Stark, but he's fun to write. I've been writing more of him than 616 Stark - I leave that to the better writers than I?

yes!
The Thor&Tony buddy relationship was one of the best things in the Ultimates verse.
(I´m not particularly fond of this verse, but I liked your fic!)

I know, I'm not fond of Ultimates-verse either, but they were so cute together. I loved that Tony, Mr Technological Genius himself, is all,
"So, let me get this straight. You... are Thor, son of Odin, god of thunder, immortal deity, etc. and have come to earth to show us the error of our ways?"
"Yeah."
"Cool. Vodka?"

I'm glad you liked it. <3 I was so iffy about posting it. Thank you!

Oh wow. That was heartbreaking and hot all at the same time. Love all the little details about Tony condition and even making all the insane stuff from OSC UIM work.

There's always a part of him that's distant, then; he will remember everything you say down to the very inflection of your words, but it's obvious that his full attention is not yours.

So very true.

I don't know WHAT Orson Scott Card was doing, honestly. I'm not entirely sure that he read Ultimates at all. I think he just said, "Fuck it, let's sci-fi this bitch!" and went from there, so right now I'm chalking all the crazy up to "Orson Scott Card did not discuss his ideas with Ultimates writers to see if said ideas made any canonical sense."

Thank you for commenting. <3

Oh, nice!

Ultimates Tony/Thor was one of the first pairings I shipped in Marvel, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone write it.

Excellent.

I haven't, either, even though it's one of those pairings that seems so obvious.

If mine is (one of?) the first, then, I'm glad I seemed to have done all right with it. <3 Thank you.

Yes, absolutely. Whenever I see characters who seem to be politically opposed, yet have a personal affinity and an interest in working together, I find that fascinating. Plus, they're both dead sexy. /shallow

I didn't really keep up with Millar's Ultimates after the first volume -- and I haven't touched the Loeb stuff with a ten foot pole -- but I loved the way they were set up there, and I'd be interested if you do more with this.

Thor and Tony are a pair who greatly interest me in both their Ultimates and 616 incarnations, because it's a friendship that never should have worked by all accounts--what with their political views and the fact that Thor is a god and Tony is essentially an atheist and Tony hates magic and Thor is kind of all about things magic-related and Thor's world makes Tony twitchy--yet Thor loves Tony just as much as Thor loves any of his Asgardian brothers-in-arms, and it's completely mutual.

Hell, in 616-verse, there's one issue where Tony literally throws himself in front of the equivalent of a death ray in order to block it from hitting Thor because omg no! Better Iron Man perish than Thor! or whatever. It is awesomely dramatic. And Thor grabs Tony as he falls and is all "OMG NO. NO. THIS CANNOT BE! I SHALL AVENGE YOU BY MURDERING THIS MOTHERFUCKER." Only not quite in those exact words, but the sentiment was there. And there is another issue where Iron Man is kidnapped by Kang, and fake!Spiderman (clone created by Kang!) tells the ( ... )

"You think your divinity allows you to ruin my dates, O great God of Thunder?" Tony asks, sauntering over to Thor with an eyebrow raised. His tone is vaguely mocking, but he's smiling, and it negates the insult. A gentle teasing, born of friendship rather than disbelief.

Yay, thank you for Tony/Thor! I thought their friendship was one of the most interesting parts of Ultimates because it shouldn't work but it did somehow, and I really like how you've written them here.

Also, if you were going to write Tony and Thor's (and possibly Peter's) wacky adventures in Europe, I would so love to see that, hehe.

Yeah, as I said to likeadeuce, Tony and Thor really shouldn't work as friends, all things considered, but they totally do.

Thank you! I'm glad you like the way I wrote them; I was pretty iffy about posting this, actually, so I'm relieved that I seem to have gotten it right.

I don't think I could pull off the wacky adventures in Europe, sadly. But if anyone else is willing to try, I am all for that. *g*
