More, same universe

So, where was I last time? I believe I'd settled on drabbles because they were quick to write and yet still had plot. I don't feel like counting words tonight though, so I think it'll be vignettes or character sketches. Still around the same time period, which is a prequel to what I have in mind, but still very necessary.

The British have barristers and solicitors, which might sound fancy to an American. Will try to see if I can come up with something better.

Solicitor is tempting. Anything Roman? I'm kinda patterning this society after them.

They were orators (like Cicero). In fact, the first definition of 'orator' in the OED is "A person who pleads or argues on behalf of a person or cause; an advocate, a spokesperson; spec. a professional advocate. Now rare (hist. in later use)."

Thanks. May not use it (orator is too likely to be confused with the modern meaning of the term), but it's good to know.
