So I tried to give blood a few weeks ago and they sent me home due to lack of iron. I took iron pills for three weeks, and went back, and they still sent me home today. I even got the same iron readings as last time (11.6). So, maybe it takes more than 2-3 weeks like the Internet said, or maybe I'm doing something that is making the iron pills not

My anemia is because my body doesn't absorb the iron I give it, but my doctor still has me on iron pills - I guess because it absorbs a bit more than if I weren't taking them. I haven't tried donating in a long time though. Last time they actually told me to shake my hands and move the iron into my finger tips?!?!
Is there an iron test if you're just donating platelets and getting the red cells back?
