The Black Jewel Trilogy by Anne Bishop, if you haven't read it, is slightly trashy serial fantasy. Basically, perfect summer reading. I think the first one is Daughter of the Blood. And the new book by Jacqueline Carey, Kushiel's Scion.
And from mildly kinky books to religious comedy, try Good Omens or Lamb (The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal). Both of them are amazing.
Oh, and The Other Boleyn Girl is fun. She wrote another nifty English historical fiction, but then wrote this long horrid series that sucks beyond reason.
The Birth of Venus Anything by David Sedaris Assassination Vacation--Sarah Vowell Dry by Augusten Burroughs The Best American NonRequired Reading-- edited by Dave Eggers
(a) don't die. that would be sad. (b) "i never" by r.k. is amazing. i honestly became obsessed with it this week, coincidentally. (c) freakonomics is a fast read. "middlesex" by jeffrey eugenides is also pretty good - and keeps one entertained (d) don't die. por favor.

I refuse to touch House on Mango Street with a 10 foot pole, but even if I wanted to I'm sure I sold it back by now.
If you want fantasy that will make you laugh out loud, (quite literally) try Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff.
