Huh...you must have visited a different China than I did lol. Although I will definitely agree with you on the less rude thing in general -- it's largely an overall Eastern/Western cultural difference I think, as far as public displays of rudeness. I definitely wish America would take a page from the Eastern cultures on that, at least to a certain extent -- there are times where the pendulum swings too far the other way, like when Japanese girls who put up a fuss about getting groped on the subway are looked down upon -- but overall it would make our society much more pleasant. That having been said -- as far as the driving thing, holy Christ on a cracker. When we were there, it seemed like traffic laws were suggestions at best, and watching those damn little mopeds speed in and out of traffic all over the place was enough to give me a heart attack. :P ( ... )

It was absolutely crazy! Despite my best efforts to blend in and be inconspicuous, they still seemed to notice me!

The tour guides that we had did a marvelous job and completely not-mentioning anything about the bad parts of Chinese society. Yay Communism!

Haha I remember that too! I think somebody flat-out asked our tour guide something about Tiananmen Square and all she could say was that she wasn't allowed to talk about it. America has many flaws, but the freedom of speech concept is one of the few things we have right, regardless of it not always working out in practice.
