Third World Child By Caralia Hilliard

Stark, naked realization hit me like a ton of bricks, just like the Louisiana humidity hit me. Getting off that plane I realized I had left my life in another country, traveled continents, leaving South Africa, in the fulfillment of my fathers dream. In my dreams the sea calls me home, images of waves lapping at the sand, which has been there for ( Read more... )

I wanted to say something eloquently awestruck about that wonderful piece of prose, but all I could think of were the words of Joy Harjo: "All poets realize the final uselessness of words. We are chords to other chords to other chords, if we're lucky, to melody." I think it's a true song.

hmm, that quote comes from a poem called Bird. I would imagine that any of her poetry books are excellent.

I don't even NEED to tell you what an awesome writer you are. You know I think that, and you most definitely rock my socks.

With the content - I wish I could have experienced life as you described it in South Africa. America is the land of democracy and all, but sometimes I feel trapped in it. It's all a matter of point of view, I suppose. Someday I'm going to leave here for somewhere else that isn't as divisive and prejudiced. I wish I had other experiences in foreign countries. It matures you - and you are very mature. Not old lady style, but you know what I mean. You do have an old soul. Like my mom thinking of you as my mom at NOCCA! Stuff like that.

Even if you already know it, I'll tell ya again....I love you. And I'm here for you if you ever, ever need anything. I mean, you know how there are just some people you feel like you just know?? Yeah.

I obviously just can't express myself in writing like you can. Hence the above paragraphs. You get my gist.
