Take a Load Off Annie

So, I just lost 30 pounds last week. (Another 30 this week, considering the iToddler is with his grandma in Dallas! Hehe.) And everyone thinks, "well yeah, you just had a baby... of course you lost weight". But I think it's pretty awesome because I didn't gain any baby weight this time around, so I'm losing regular weight, not baby-weight. The ( Read more... )

Other people will tell you otherwise, but exercise is not crucial to weight loss. Calories are what it's all about. Calories and hormonal stuff that you can't control.

Exercise is important for feeling good and being healthy, but not for specifically losing weight. And, exercising like a human (going for walks, playing, etc) is far better for you than exercising like a yuppie. (; I have a good book, if you wanna borrow it.

I realize that exercise isn't the be-all end-all. However, I am deathly afraid of having way too much skin for my smaller body. It's right up there with my fear of fat ankles (from which I have recovered post-pregnancy, thank the Gods!). The extra skin is already there, so I'm hoping to maintain my weight for a bit before embarking on the next step. It's slowly going back to normal already. But, according to my quick googleresearch (what are we supposed to call that? gresearch?), the key to keeping the flabby away is to tone. And that's going to take a little more than walking. Plus, if I have a membership, they'll take care of my kids, and I might as well avail myself of their yuppie weights, right?

Aww, I didn't mean to say that exercising in other ways was bad, just that it wasn't the end-all be-all, which is what most people will tell you.

I underestimate, sometimes, how clever and together you are. (;

Avail yourself to the yuppie delights! (:

I have an underused membership at the YMCA. It's a great place. They have child care too.

I walk and run a little on the treadmill for 10-20 mins. Then I stationary bike for 10-20. Usually I'll be listening to music or reading. I always stretch before and after. That's a great asset to your workout.

I go to the Y on Town Lake, when you sign up they offer a little personal training and a tour. The guy there can help you figure out what you might want to use. Personally, I look at the machines, use one machine per body area and then stretch. Then cardio. Or cardio first. Whatevs. But really doing any amount of any of it, even if you only go in for 20 minutes of treadmill walking- is great. Moves your body and burns the calories. I'm about to(like already kinda starting) to get back on the "fuck the shape I'm in" plan of taking back my body from the inertia. Though I've been ill for a freaking MONTH so I'm a bit pissed at my body atm. :P

You're still really young, so your skin should slowly shrink back into place after you've lost the weight. The trainer friend I have says that that's a good way to tell if your weight's going down- if your skin feels "loose" if your skin feels tight, then in all likelihood you're not losing.

I have a bunch of weight lifting equipment in my mom's garage if you ever want to get together with me and do some lifting. I have lots of in between weights (5's, 8's, 10's, 12's) because I really can't lift much. When looking for a gym- I highly recommend looking for one that has the smaller weights. i always use dumbbells, though. You may be more interested in using machines?

If you can, snag a copy of Body for Life from Half Price books. I still use the exercise photos to guide me through a workout, and the book is full of really useful information.
