The Wait

So while I was thinking of a title for that last post, I got to thinking about a parody song my dad wrote called "The Wait", instead of "The Weight". It's about Joseph, Jesus' father, and what it might have been like for him on that trip to Bethlehem, knowing that any minute Mary could pop and he'd be the father of the Messiah. Lines like, "Just ( Read more... )

The only way that works for me is to remember that I've been in horrible situations in the past that I've managed to work through. i notice that I still have all my limbs and most of my sanity and happiness. I also rely heavily on my friends and on having places to go that feel safe and good. I also do feel somewhat in touch with some thing that I just always simply refer to as "The Universe."

I don't know what you're having anxiety about in this case. There are different solutions for different problems and for me eliminating anxiety is tricky but very important. Maybe sometime we could brainstorm ways to eliminate or at least lesson your anxiety?

Yep. Like I said, "...and how I seem to keep being able to overcome in the end."

I can't remember what I was feeling anxious about, if anything. It was mostly a post about how to deal with it. Because I'm totally not used to being anxious anymore.

I get through times like that by stopping that part of my mind from running the show. Each human being is a multiplicity of selves, some more rational, some more emotional, some more instinctual. Some people are naturally more in tune with themselves than others, but with practice anyone can learn to tease out the different voices, listening to some and quieting others. Regular conscious check-ins are good, and with time a certain level of this type of self-awareness becomes natural, so that it's much harder for any one (obviously or not) destructive thought to take over for any length of time.

Sure thing.

Set a timer, so you won't have to worry about time. Start with 5 minutes and work up to 15. Sit in a quiet place. Get comfortable. Close your eyes. Place your hand on your heart. Breathe deeply. Say the name of God (whatever name resonates for you) into your heart as if through an open door. Let the Divine energy flow into your heart. It's like Tea-Time with the Divine. You're not asking for anything. You're not giving thanks for anything in particular. You're just hanging out, you and God.

Making this a part of my daily practice completely changed my life, starting after about two weeks.

Mark Silver has a much better explanation of Remembrance in his workbook: http://www.heartofbusiness.com/thecore/

and this was the thing that actually got me to practice it: http://www.heartofbusiness.com/the-remembrance-challenge/
