My word, it certainly has been an interesting month, hasn't it? And now we're due for a new set of New Feathers to arrive. Time really does fly
( Read more... )
[Litchi! Robert has not spoken to her in too long, now, so he actually goes to bother her today. It totally isn't because he's lonely from isolating himself after the experiment, nope.]
Ah, Doctor Faye-Ling... your wonderfully-helpful self as ever, I see.
... There is a clinic in the Battle Dome? [That is news to Robert. He lives within a stone's throw of the Battle Dome, but until now hasn't even wanted to go near it due to the fact it's... well... the Battle Dome.]/small>
...
That might a-actually be a reason to go there sometime, then.
Now, now, Professor Hastings, there's no need for such flattery. [Don't stoke her ego, Robert, it's larger than it appears. Still, she'll chuckle quietly.] ...But thank you. Arriving here is difficult enough as it is; anything to help a New Feathers settle in, I'll do my best.
And yes, there is a clinic in the Battle Dome. Dr. McCoy is the head doctor there. He can be a little... stoic sometimes, but he's very skilled at his job.
[He's definitely good at stoking peoples' egos. Especially the egos of people he likes.]
Your best is always exceptional, Doctor Faye-Ling.
... Ah, I believe I may have heard his name in passing... That would certainly be a reason to investigate the clinic, then.
[Though the idea of being in a place called the Battle Dome is less than pleasant.]
... Ah, incidentally, would you happen to know if there are medical scanners at either clinic? When I was there before, at the village square's clinic, I did not see any...
[She pauses for a moment, trying to remember all the contents of the Battle Dome clinic. It's rare that she'll help out around there, so it's not committed to memory quite as well.]
At the village clinic, no, we don't have any such technology. I'm not 100% certain about the one in the Battle Dome, but I don't think we had any there, either. The technology is a little more advanced there, though.
Most doctors do tend to be very diligent workers. [Robert nods a little at this... but at the next part, it turns into something of a frown.]
... Ah, is that so? How unfortunate... I had hoped that there was something like an MRI or a PET-based scanner... Don, Miss Aislinn and I had plans to investigate certain things with their aid.
... I despise asking the Malnosso, but do you think they might be willing? The scanners would be medically useful for others as well.
You know, they may very well be willing to assist. After all, a friend of mine managed to convince them to give him an entire entertainment center. It's certainly worth a try.
[Her tone is almost dreamy in its thoughtfulness. Robert, why you gotta make her have a medical nerd moment.] Some scanners really would be very helpful.
If they would, it would be the second useful thing they have done for me, my nanocomputer being the first. [Robert almost snorts.] But it... is indeed worth consideration.
[Oh, he's good at making people nerd out, and he's even going to nerd out with her.] Think of the possible applications in studying the various anatomical configurations of the sapients here... to say nothing of analyses and investigations into brain-activity patterns associated with Filial magic usage, or studying the wings...
[Way to make her nerd out even more.] It would be great if we could have a little more insight into all those details. Especially given the different body compositions amongst all the people here.
I suppose we'll just have to wait and see if the Malnosso will humor us on this, though.
It would be marvelous. [His astrobiologist is definitely showing.] What an opportunity to study non-human sapient structural configuration in a safe and harmless manner...
... Do you suppose it'd be too much to hope for to request Terran scanners for the clinic?
[Damn, if the Malnosso actually got Terran medical scanners and put them in the Battle Dome, Robert would pretty much stalk the Battle Dome every day.]
However, even more... archaic versions would be significantly more helpful than nothing.
Hmm. Really, any scanners would be a significant help, but... well, I suppose I'll just take what we can get. Hopefully the Malnosso will humor us on this one.
... How have you been keeping yourself since we last spoke, by the way? Other than dealing with the New Feathers, is there anything else of note happening for you?
W-well... just... playing with our "housecat." [She knows the fighting thing is a delicate subject for Robert, so she gives an almost apologetic cough. It's only slightly lying. But she's still a horrible liar, so she'll try to push onward before he can catch onto it.] That, and trying to get the house back the way it should be. We had some... rather unexpected visitors before. [re: Yuber. She's still a little freaked out over that.]
[Robert is still not enamoured with fighting, no. It'll probably be a long time before he's comfortable with it at all.
... Oh, and Litchi, don't worry about Robert catching your lying. Terrible as it may be, his social skills are even worse.]
I have been... better, since the day of the experiment ending. I... still remember much of the events, and I made a point of... r-recording them all. [His voice hitches just barely there.] ... But... I would rather remember them than not.
... At least my life has been somewhat less turbulent? Though I worry for Raphael... he was kidnapped during the experiment, and he has been gone for a significant period of time. I hope he will be returned soon.
Taken by the Malnosso, hm...? I have to admit, that's something I never really get used to. Most people aren't kept for terribly long, if it helps any. [And no, she will not share that a very good friend was kidnapped and then never came back. Because she has faith that the Malnosso don't do that sort of thing all the time.
Perhaps it's a little blind hope as well.]
I'm glad things have been getting better for you, though.
I should hope that we would never get used to it, considering the barbaric torture they put those kidnapped through... [Robert exhales sadly.] So far I have been lucky to escape it, but...
Yes, I've been lucky enough to have never been taken myself, but.... several close friends of mine have been. In a way, I wish it had been me just so that they didn't have to suffer, but... well, there's no helping it, I suppose.
I can only hope that the kidnappings are something that will go away with time. [Fat chance.]
