Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: While it's not always so readily apparent upon meeting him, Kurogane is a talented ninja and expert swordsman. Despite his size, he maintains the speed to match even vampires in a fight and yet packs the definite punch that comes with his stature. Almost inhumanly so. He's noted to have abnormal strength, capable of shouldering loads most humans wouldn't try tackling. And his skills with the sword are near matchless in canon as well. There's nothing Kurogane loves more than a good fight. In fact, he has quite the drive for it, though it becomes tempered as his time with his travel companions carries onward. Even with his new-found control, he still sparks at the idea of an impending battle and heads into each fight clear-headed and intent on winning. He's fit and with it comes the endurance to carry out his tasks - certainly someone you don't want to get into an altercation with if it can be helped.
There are a few special attacks when it comes to Kurogane utilizing his sword. One comes in the form of lightning-esque power strike, that manages to ravage most of the area around him and anyone else within its field of action. There are also several others that seem to manifest from energy or light, coming as either bright powerful flashes or taking the form of a dragon. Regardless of which he uses, however, they are capable of great damage, and are in general something he reserves for serious fights.
But probably the deadliest aspect of Kurogane's abilities is being able to pinpoint not only a person's strengths but their weaknesses on one simple observation. This aspect applies not only to one's familiarity around weapons and fighting styles, but their personalities and outlooks as well. It gives Kurogane a lethal edge that isn't often noted given his general personality and that easily flustered self that is his everyday existence. It speaks volumes on his experience in dealing with others, and allows him the room to move confidently and cleanly. Few wasted actions and each carefully measured.
Conditional: N/A
Weapons: At the point in canon he'll be taken from, Kurogane was still in possession of his katana, Souhi. Not much is known about the blade other than Kurogane remarking that it's well-made and fitting. It's a sword capable of withstanding his own powerful attacks and not cracking under them.

Character Personality:Brash, rude, and ever eager to fight, the first time one comes across Kurogane, he seems no more than a brute. When he's first introduced, there's an edge to him that suggests he is someone not easily bound nor easily tested. He displays little respect towards Tomoyo, his own retainer, has no qualms about expressing his rage over being sent away from his world, and he shows absolutely no respect for Yuuko. The only thing that matters to him is is own objective, and he couldn't give a damn about anyone else. But in that, Kurogane is willing to sacrifice the most valuable thing he owns in order to pursue what he wants. Even at the start, we can see that he is a man who, despite all outward appearances, understands the heart of matters inherently and will not hesitate to act when he has to regardless of the cost. Though he has the arrogance to also claim that he'll come back for those things that matter to him, in spite of that initial cost as well.
While he initially claims to have no desire to help with Syaoran's quest, he gets roped into the matter regardless. The more they travel, the more readily he acts. And for all he tends to bitch about the situation and his travel companions, it becomes quickly apparent that it never stops him from actually helping out. Whether he's working to rebuild a destroyed home or getting into a fight, Kurogane's always caught doing one thing or another for those around him. It's a betrayal of the self, proving that for all that gruff exterior, he is truly a kind person beneath it all. [Not that this ever stops him from cursing, drinking, chasing after Mokona and Fai with a slew of death threats, or taking pleasure in the fights he gets himself into.]
Initial impressions of Kurogane tend to be of a man who's got little on his mind. He often appears disinterested in the workings around him, contained to himself and held apart from the rest of the group. When he does react, it's most often because he's been set off by some tease stemming from Fai and Mokona's corner of the room. He's easily riled up, pushed to the point of irritation and displaying no shame at all about yelling at those who grate against his nerves for one reason or another. This is most often confined to matters that are superficial in nature, the "weird" name-calling being a particular point of contention, but as are pokes at his nature in a teasing manner as well. When one is only exposed to this layer of Kurogane's personality, he comes across as someone who is all brawn no intellect. Abrasive in nature with little charm. A "man's man" and nothing else.
However, time and time again, it's shown that Kurogane is highly observant not just of his surroundings but of the people he travels with. For all his rudeness, his raging and bitching, he's constantly watching the reactions of everyone around him. He can be quite serious in nature [to the point that even when Fai calls him by some "ridiculous" name, he doesn't even seem to notice if the situation has become that serious], particularly when it comes to matters that sit at the heart of those around him. But, he's not the type to simply come out and say everything he sees. True to his ninja nature, Kurogane takes in everything and only reveals what he's observed at choice times, when he knows the impact will be there. He assesses Fai's nature quickly, far before anyone else, and seems to know almost instinctively when lies are being thrown about, when other plots are being laid [particularly noticed on two separate fronts in the land of Infinity when he notes both Fai and Sakura planning something on their own as well as the fact that they've been watched the whole time.
This same keenness applies to battle as well. He's quick to pick up on techniques, to dissect a battle down and know when the hits count and who the victor is before anyone seems to fall. It lends that edge to Kurogane that any practiced fighter picks up on, often accompanied by comments that Kurogane is probably the most practiced and strongest fighter out of the group. Despite his general aloof demeanor, almost nothing escapes his attention. He simply allows most to believe he's not noticed anything at all [a real talent if one looks at it] until he chooses the time to reveal what he knows.
Underlying Kurogane's nature, and ultimately what leads to his role in the group, is his desire to protect the people he cares about it. It's perhaps the strongest core belief he carries. After witnessing his mother's death and his learning of his father's at the hands of one of his country's monsters, Kurogane pursued the path that would bring him the greatest strength, which despite his brashness and sheer arrogance at the start of the story regarding it [doing anything and everything to keep getting stronger and stronger], was rooted in that desire to never have to lose anyone he loved again. It's this that ultimately makes him a kind person. Having come from such a loving home, Kurogane was gifted with this from the start. However, events were put into play that shifted the way he went about his desire to protect, a path he went on only once he set free from his own madness [in which he pretty much obliterated the entire invading forces into his home] after his mother's death.
It was those events which lead to his serving Princess Tomoyo, who despite his rudeness in addressing her and the bitterness he initially harbors over her sending, holds his loyalty. She was the person who allowed him to recognize what he was doing, to finally "allow his mother to rest" and broke him from his grief-induced madness. It can be assumed that they have a very close relationship, and when he finally arrives back in Japan, he does so wiser, having accepted her reasons for sending him away and re-promising to serve her as he can. Yet, his loyalty to her does not stop him from finishing his travels with the group, to complete the task that he eventually comes to accept as something he wants to do for the people he has come to care for.
This is perhaps the biggest change one notes over his time in the story, another piece playing on that ever important sense of loyalty. As they travel, Kurogane's bonds grow tighter and tighter with his group, so far as going out of his way to help and reassure when he can. He truly does become the adhering factor among them, remaining perhaps the most "aware" person in the group - not just of the situation, but of the changes and problems affecting each and every one of the others that comes in. What he lacks in natural affability, he makes up for in the fact that when he cares, he does so truly. Perhaps one of the most notable scenes regarding this is when the "original" Syaoran has suffered yet another blow from Sakura's refusal to really accept him in the world of Infinity. It is there that Kurogane makes it a point of wanting to know what this Syaoran can do, not as someone playing a replacement but as his own person. He accepts people as they are, for what flaws and issues they have, and isn't the type to let you run away from them so easily.
He's the constant force in the group that makes them all come to face the situations before them, to keep them from denying themselves and sinking further and further into themselves. He might do it roughly, angrily even at times [as he did with Fai in Tokyo], but these are things he does because he's come to care, because he worries about the group and how they're doing. He has no intention of watching idly while they flounder - but he doesn't charge into every little mess either. It can be argued that because he is with the group, each with heavy burdens to bear, that it almost forces him to come out of his own world and take charge in a way he's never had to before. As he tells Tomoyo, he has seen and learned that power cannot solve everything, that it brings its own miseries with it.
When it comes to all that matters, Kurogane is an honest [and hardworking at times] man. He admits to not understanding [even if he follows it with 'not caring either'], and even when he's in that moment with Tomoyo, he makes a point of saying he doesn't know if he learned what true strength was or not, even as he seems to understand and accept that he has changed. He acts without regret, and will come right and say what's one his mind once he decides to speak. He'll admit to not being familiar with something, and not display any shame about it. He may be rough around the edges, but he's a man of surprising principles [disliking those who simply roll over and die and those who won't go for what they want, and valuing loyalty] under it all.
Boiling it down, Kurogane really does become the "Daddy" of the group. He's incredibly human even while possessing amazing insight and skills/strength. On one hand, easy to rile up and annoy, on the other serious and stern. He's someone who seems to truly understand the nature of people, but also when and when not to step into the arena regarding the various issues around them.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: First and foremost, Kurogane will be wanting to get on the same page as his canonmates/pseudo-canon people. Understanding that situation and what's been going on with them is key to how he will choose to proceed within this new setting. If he had to act alone, that would have been one thing, but that he will have others here relying on him is something he will take into consideration regarding how he'll act. Additionally to that, it will be a matter of then figuring out how survival in this place will work for the time being, just as they've worked and settled in any other world their group has arrived in.
After that, probably making sure things were safe. The situation with the Darkness would remind him of one world he had previously been to (Outo), and he'd express some interest in that, but mostly as far as keeping things from harming what's around him. He's not the type to get drawn into politics or petty fights, and would most likely stick to keeping an eye on his current crew and learning the city, and most importantly, how to get out of it without Mokona.
Appearance/PB:Short black hair, red eyes, Kurogane is a ninja and carries the build of one. Lean but muscular, and falling on the tall side [being even taller than Fai]. He traditionally wore the clothes from his home country, those as dark as his hair and often lined in red, as befitting his job. However, through his travels, he sports the dress of most of the worlds they visit. Again, these always seem to be streamlined and in darker fabrics, offsetting him from the lighter tone Fai's clothes seem to take. When given the choice though, he seems to select clothes most like that of traditional Japan when his own clothes aren't available. At times, there is a dragon symbol accompanying some of what he wears, as it is a symbol hailing from his clan.
