Between the subdued luxury of the room itself and the closeness to the bedroom of a Territory Queen, this was worlds away from what either child, Blood urchin or landen, had ever been used to.
Karla, cruel taskmaster that she was, had them reading aloud from a book of stories. Nyles kept insisting he was too old to be read to, especially 'baby stories like these,' but Karla held firm. They'd keep reading these stories in the evenings before bed until both of their reading improved.

He didn't say why right off the bat, no, but the fact that he'd already slipped into clothing less suitable for a Glacian Consort and more fitting for a New York businessman might have been a hint.
At least he hadn't packed his overnight bag just yet.
