[Background]
Ino was, obviously, born into the Yamanaka clan of Konohagakure; her parents own a flower shop in the village, and, therefore, Ino knows more than her fair share about flower arranging and all the good stuff. However, her family does far more than just arrange flowers; the Yamanaka clan specializes in manipulating the minds of their opponents through various different techniques.
Because of her family background, it was no surprise that she was sent to the Academy when she was of suitable age. Talented and popular, Ino was the girl that everyone wanted to be; however, unlike most other popular girls, she didn't seem to let it go to her head. She did, in fact, take a liking to the apparently unpopular Haruno Sakura, sealing their friendship with a bit of ribbon she gave the poor girl in order to try and disguise her large forehead. The two girls forged a close friendship, which… almost ended when they ended up falling in "love" with the same guy. Uchiha Sasuke was every girl's daydream, but both Ino and Sakura took it to a whole other level entirely; their friendship soon changed into an odd sort of competition, where each girl would try to outdo the other in order to win Sasuke's heart.
Their rivalry continued when they graduated from the Academy; Ino was undeniably the most talented kunoichi in their class, a fact that she threw up in Sakura's face without hesitation. However, when their class was divided up into teams, Sakura managed to land the coveted spot on Sasuke's team, while Ino… was stuck on Team 10 with Shikamaru and Chouji. It wasn't as bad as she pretended it was, to be perfectly honest; after all, their fathers had all been on the same team when they were younger, and, as such, the three kids had known one another for practically all their lives.
The three young genin worked well together, though, and they excelled under the tutelage of their teacher, Sarutobi Asuma; out of all the genin teams, Team 10 did, in fact, have the best teamwork, despite the constant bickering that Ino caused. Therefore, when the Chuunin Exam rolled around, it wasn't terribly shocking when they were enrolled in it. During the Chuunin Exam, Ino proved to be invaluable to her team by using her "Mind-Body Switch Technique" to enter Sakura's mind and memorize her answers during the written part; she also helped Rock Lee to defend both Sakura and Sasuke from the Sound Genin.
When the third round of the Chuunin Exam rolled around, Ino and Sakura were randomly chosen to fight one another; it was certainly something that had been coming for quite some time, seeing as how they were both sworn rivals. Ino practically toyed with Sakura at first, which angered Sakura; she then denounced Ino, and then the battle truly began. They used up most of their energy in the fierce battle that ensued, until Ino tried to end the battle by entering Sakura's mind using her special technique; Inner-Sakura, however, proved to be much too powerful for her, and Ino was forced out of Sakura's mind. The two, running remarkably low on chakra, then lunged at each other, knocking one another out and disqualifying them both from the competition. However, when the finally came back around, Ino told Sakura that she had truly blossomed into a beautiful flower… and, despite the corniness of the line, their friendship began once more, although it was still full of fierce competition.
Ino didn't truly do anything for quite some time; she popped back up once Naruto returned to Konoha after his three-year training mission with Jiraiya, and that was about it. However, when Tsunade began to plan an attack on Akatsuki, Ino was assigned to a team with Chouji and two others. They were meant to serve as backup to Asuma and Shikamaru as they fought Akatsuki members Hidan and Kakuzu; however, Ino's main role in the whole thing was basically trying to heal Asuma after he had been mortally wounded by the duo. She tried her hardest to save him, although she knew that there was nothing that she could do; knowing he was going to die, he told her that she should tale care of both Chouji and Shikamaru, and that she should refuse to lose to Sakura in absolutely anything.
Shikamaru, Chouji, and Ino then swore to avenge Asuma's death; they had initially planned to set out as a three-man team, but, after they were stopped by Tsunade, Kakashi stepped in and volunteered to be their fourth man. The new team then set out; Ino played an important part in the beginning of the plan, using her technique to possess a hawk to pinpoint the location of their targets. However, because her technique took quite a bit out of her, she was forced to watch while Naruto defeated Kakuzu and while Shikamaru ran off and defeated Hidan. She did, however, heal Naruto after he was finished with Kakuzu.
Ino then disappeared once more until Pain, the leader of Akatsuki, decided to attack Konoha. Seeing the devastation, she ran to the interrogation chamber, where her father, Inoichi, was working to unlock the secrets that one of Pain's corpses held; it was there that she, along with her father, Shizune, and Ibiki, were attacked by two more of Pain's clones; they left them to Ibiki so that they could continue to the code deciphering office. They weren't left alone for long, though; another one of Pain's clones arrives and, after reading Shizune's mind to figure out where Naruto was, ripped away Shizune's soul.
And as if that wasn't enough, Pain then caused an explosion to rip through Konoha, destroying anything in its path. That's roughly where I'm taking Ino from; she knows that there was an explosion, but then everything went black....
[Personality]
Ino is somewhat superficial, constantly thinking about boys and hoping that dieting to lose weight will make her be more attractive to them. Ino can also be very confident and outspoken, and isn't afraid to speak her mind and sometimes suggests that Choji should lose weight. She is attracted to Sasuke, but her reasons for that attraction, apart from Sasuke being a popular student and the best in his class, are unknown.
In her team, Ino tends to boss the others around, though she clearly cares for them as shown by her relief when Choji survived near fatal injuries. Shikamaru, despite thinking of most girls as "troublesome," typically offers no resistance, being unwilling to deal with how she reacts if she is unable to have her way. Asuma recognizes the control she has over the others, and while dying, tells her to look after Choji and Shikamaru and ensure that they do not get into trouble.
Ino has shown to possess a great level of intelligence and quite perceptive; in the Chunin Exams she uses her hair to make a chakra rope to bind Sakura, and in the Konoha 11 filler she is able to tell a person's occupation by glancing at the condition of their hands. Also during Pain's invasion, she was able to conclude that Pain's real body must be around the village for his technique to work since it is similar to her clan's.
[Specialties/Abilities]
As a chuunin, Ino knows plenty of different jutsu and techniques; she was, after all, one of the best shinobi in her class, and she is considered to be one of the best kunoichi in her village. However, beside the basic techniques, Ino truly excels in the special techniques of her clan. The Yamanaka clan is known for their ability with mind-affecting jutsu. Her best attack is her "Mind-Body Switch Technique", where she sends her mind into someone else's; once inside their mind, she can then control them, and make them do what she wants them to do. However, the true downside to this technique is that, while she is inhabiting the host, her true body will be defenseless and unguarded; missing her intended target also means that she is unconscious for several minutes while her mind tries to return to her body. Ino has also become a medic-nin, although she lacks the talent of her friend Sakura. She still strives to do her best, and she isn't a bad medic-nin by any means.
Ino will also have her stash of weaponry with her, consisting of several kunai and shuriken; standard ninja weaponry, really. She doesn't have a great deal of these, but she has enough to get her by.
[Affection]
If you're a guy--well, a hot guy--then Ino has no problem with you, you know, getting a little close. She's a total flirt, anyway; she's asking for it. But if you're ugly or weird, then GTFO.
