I didn't pull out the tux again for tonight's date with Robin, but I do have on a nice suit, and it doesn't occur to me that anything less formal would be appropriate for such an occasion. I'm fairly handy in the kitchen, at least with things that aren't too complicated, but I've enlisted help for tonight's dinner, wanting to make sure everything ( Read more... )

Once upon a time, Robin had made a pecan pie for her Thanksgiving date and Ted had flipped out about that, which had led to relapse sex. Robin was sort of hoping this time it went over better. She'd dressed herself in a thin-strapped little green number that was made of satin and cut down to reveal...well, okay, a polite amount of cleavage.

"You really went all out," Robin remarked with genuine surprise as she looked over the spread. "This is...wow." And he looked just as good as that layout did.

"It's the least I could do," I say, and it really is, because were it not for the island's limited options this date would have been a lot classier. I was happy to make do with what I had, though, since the important thing was the company.

I step to the edge of the porch and offer her a hand up the steps. "You look beautiful, Robin," I say sincerely, with a small but genuine smile.

Robin took the hand with light fingers and helped herself up the steps, glad that she wasn't going with the heels. "This place looks great," she appraised. "I mean, I had my doubts when it was being built and talked about, but I definitely like the way it turned out," she said with a cheerful nod. "So what's on the menu?"

"Macadamia crusted mahimahi, saffron rice, steamed vegetables, and fruit salad," I say as I take the pie from her and set it on the table. "And pecan pie for dessert, of course."

I pull out her chair, then go around and take my seat next to her once she's settled. "I had some help with the cooking," I admit.
