017 - Too Many Villains, Not Enough Spooks

Logan - I'll be working late for the next few days. We can postpone that dinner? Sorry.

Broklehurst - If you've got a free moment, drop me a line or stop by the office. I haven't seen much of you lately.

Now I remember why I never take vacations. Everything's always worse when you get back to work, or at least it seems that way.

I thought I had it rough, trying to keep the country's head above water with the whole Tyrgyzstan fuck-up. I get here and half the people living in this city are goddamn WMD. The police force is barely a vigilante group and in a few days who knows who's going to be in power? What just confuses me is why they'd bother going the martial law route when they can just cut straight to the fight. I'm sure all the various Villains Anonymous groups are picking their candidates carefully. I won't be surprised if Styles runs, and compared to some of the possibilities he might be the better alternative. Better the devil you know, especially when you can punch that devil in the head if he tries anything. Or threaten to oust his dirty laundry to the entire city.

So. Seras Victoria. Vampire, whatever the fuck that means. Seems like a good kid, well-intentioned. Someone obviously wants to use her as a puppet, but I can't see the strings.

Charming has nothing to gain by stepping down and using her instead, he's better off doing it himself. Why would he say that about putting me in Yagami's place? Was he just saying what he thought I wanted to hear, or does he think I'm naive enough to let myself be used like that by him? Or is he actually planning on doing it? I wouldn't say no, but I wouldn't like it either.

At least the arrancar are well out of it. Aizen obviously has other plans and doesn't really care about us lowly peons. They'll have to wait.

The angel, Rosiel. Just the fact that Nicholas is working for him has to mean he's doing something not entirely kosher on the side. He's arrogant enough to put himself up for the job, but what's more worrying is who else he might be backing secretly. But it would be nice to think that Broklehurst wouldn't do anything too out there, but he's not MI6 any more.

Valentine. An information-monger if I've ever met one. As if I don't do my own damn research. He's obviously had ties with the Millennium group, that crazy Nazi Major guy, so he'd obviously work for them again. He's not a leader, he's a survivor. Warden would be a good position to pull info from, but who would make sure he got the office?

And then there's Yagami, probably the most annoying man I've ever met, including Styles. Who knows what he's planning. It's obvious 90% of the city doesn't trust the kid and the other 10% hasn't met him, so he has to be even smarter than he seems to stay out of jail for whatever the hell he's pulling behind our backs. Not that our jail is really that threatening. But I don't think anyone would risk working with him, and you can't pull off a legal coup on your own. You need someone to vote for you.

Unless you're rigging the ballots. Fuck.

And there could be more. There's no enough time!

The easiest solution would just be to run for Warden myself, but I can't. And if someone tries to turn the police force to their own ends, I'll know that I didn't do everything to keep it from happening. Fine. I can deal with that.

And to think two weeks ago I was well-rested and relaxed. What a place.
