Which town? We'll be driving across the Nulabor Plain and down through Vic and onto a boat within a couple of months. Looking forward to taking the van around Tassie and tripping down some of my memory lanes. The hospital where I was born in Battery Point, Hobart, was a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre last time I visited! My country home had been swallowed up in a giant suburb and Hobart had become so cosmopolitan it was all a bit of a ... shock/surprise, not sure which?

I grew up (for a bit, a couple of times) in Bacchus Marsh, and did all my secondary education in Melton. DONT GO TO MELTON!!! YOU MAY LOSE YOUR SOUL!!!

[googlemapping]... found BM but the only Melton I could find was in SA. Thanks for the warning as we'll prob drive through that way. The truly saddest place we've found was Wilcannia (west of Dubbo). Everyone warned us not to stop but we blew a tyre in the middle of nowhere just before it. It was a job to dig out a hole for the jack, but the spare held up until we found the mechanic in town. He had a black eye, cut & bruised nose and elbows. We enquired other than how he got it, as to how long he'd been there. "Five years now. Saw an opportunity and took it. There are plans to fix the town". We gave each other one of those looks. All the shops are boarded up. Listless people milling about on corners and petrol was nearly $2/litre. His eyes need examining.

So, other than relating tales... where do you live? Not threatening to drop in just curious...

We live just out of a little town called Latrobe. Lovely spot, feel free to drop in.
