after a couple of weeks of manual milking I have finally got the milking bails (or bail... long story) down at the barn

It sounds like the sort of thing which will work much better on later generations of goats, who saw mom cope with it when they were kids, so when it is their turn it is just "normal"...

Very true, I'll be turning it all into a big training excercise, and will make yards to concentrate them all in closer before I start doing anything, so they're not miles away.

THere's a couple of other jobs to be done to make it all tidy, but at least its kinda functional.
