So I just finished up cleaning up the trailer lights. I was having lots of fault indicators come up in the golf.
Found that the left indicator fitting is a bit dicky. Will get a new one this afternoon.
The number plate/brake light fitting disintegrated under the screw pressure. Will also replace.
The reversing lights are too powerful for the wire they're on (melted the wire out of the plug!). I've left them disconnected for now. The plan is to put a tool box on the trailer, maybe on the draw bar. I'll put a couple of betteries in there, and charge them on a restricted charge circuit, either from the rear 12V outlet in the golf, or from the tail light circuit. I'll use a 2 pole relay in reverse to disconnect the charge circuit when I'm reversing.
My theory was always to provide a bucket load of light from the reversing lamps to make it easier to get down the driveway at night, as it's always a bit of a dark hole.
With the box mounted on the trailer, I can get all of the ratchet straps and the cargo net out of the boot as well, though I'll keep the occy straps in there, as I sometimes use them without the trailer.
More work!
