[ Character's Name ] : No canonical name, as he can't remember it. He's known by his title, Onion Knight
[ Character's Age ] : No canonical age, but estimated to be somewhere around 12-15. I'm gonna go with 12.
[ Series ] : Final Fantasy 3 Dissidia: Final Fantasy (explanation in the Questions? Comments? Concerns? section)
[ Canon Point ] : Post-13th cycle of Dissidia, after he fades from the world but before he has the chance to arrive home.

[ History ] :
He remembers most things about his life before he was pulled from his homeworld to fight in the cycles of war between Chaos and Cosmos.

[ Personality ] :
It's probably apparent to most people who meet Onion Knight for the first time that he's quite the independent youth. He's got both the brains and fighting ability to feel confident in striking out alone in unknown territory, and is more than capable of taking care of himself. Onion Knight's well aware that he's smart (especially for his age), which sometimes lends itself to him being bratty and insufferable. His pride in his brain also leads him to often be quite judgemental and full of snark regarding the people around him... usually when they're not within earshot. Certain in his ability to outwit and outsmart others, his 'shallow cleverness' will occasionally pave the way to overconfidence and a dismissive attitude, setting himself up for a hard fall. However, because of his past experience where his overconfidence resulted in the person he was supposed to protect being kidnapped, he tries to pare back his cockiness. While it's a little more restrained than it used to be, this kind of ingrained personality trait isn't just going to go away instantly, leading him to occasionally lapse back into his old ways.

Additionally, Onion Knight's pride in his mental acuity also means he doesn't like losing or admitting he's wrong, and hesitates to speak up about any of his insecurities for fear of being seen as stupid. As a result, he finds it difficult to confide in others about misgivings that are close to his heart, preferring to bottle them up until he's stewed over them for an inordinate amount of time. And heaven knows he'll never tell people close to him that he actually really cares about them, even when everyone else is being mushy and sentimental; that would just be too embarrassing.

First and foremost, though, is his very knightly sense of protectiveness, which forms one of his biggest drives in his life. Onion Knight doesn't like seeing those who don't want to fight (or can't fight) get hurt, and he'll gladly be their sword to defend themselves with. He can't stand to see others lost and unsure of themselves, and despite his sometimes arrogant attitude, he can be remarkably encouraging and patient, willing to support and believe in people who might not believe in themselves. His determination to protect is his greatest strength, and while he isn't so reckless as to rush into battles he can't win, Onion Knight doesn't give up when his heart is set.

However, because Onion Knight wants be out there in the front lines with other capable fighters, nothing frustrates him more than people who feel the need to coddle him and keep him from battle because of his age. If they try to keep him from the fighting, he'll avoid them and find ways to get around them so he can still fight. He can't stand being looked down on, which may sometimes spur him to act brashly to prove his worthiness.

But under it all, despite trying to behave like an adult, he's still very much a kid at the core, with a repressed mischievous streak and an unquenchable curiosity that results in him always thinking about everything. However, sometimes his thoughts run away from him and take a dark turn, leaving him doubting and unsure of his reason for fighting or his ability to protect others. When he's well and truly lost with no idea what to do, that's when Onion Knight looks to the people he admires and trusts for advice. Because as much as he hates to admit it, his youth (and thus, relative inexperience) means that sometimes he has to believe someone else who knows more holds the answers. Additionally, though he won't ever admit this aloud (and will deny deny deny forever), praise from people whose opinions he cares about is a sure-fire way to make him happy. He wants them to trust him, and most of all, believe in him who believes in you.

Unfortunately, praise also often makes his ego swell, even if he does his best to try and not let it go to his head. Except it totally does.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
As his title implies, Onion Knight is an accomplished magic knight (or mystic fencer, if you want to be exact)! What he lacks in physical strength due to his age and diminuitive size, he makes up for in speed and agility. Even though he's a knight, he's not above using trickery to get an edge over the opponent in an encounter (or to avoid getting into one in the first place). But don't let his fancy tricks with his short sword fool you; he's just as likely to fire off spells when you're outside the range of his weapon. The spells he knows are:
  • Blizzard - Your standard ice spell that Onion Knight likes to apply to your face. The upgraded version, Blizzaga adds three large ice shards to the mix. Blizzaga takes longer to cast, but all the better to crush you with! CRUNCH! He'll add you to the heap.

  • Thunder - Three orbs of electricity that Onion Knight directs towards an opponent. He calls down two bolts of lightning for the upgraded version, Thundaga, which takes longer to cast. Yeah it makes no sense that a spell called Thunder channels lightning, but he doesn't name the spells, okay?

  • Firaga - Onion Knight launches a fireball at an opponent... the force of which also launches him backwards. Oof.

  • Comet - Harnessing the powers of the stars, Onion Knight fires a small barrage of teeny meteors before kicking a meteor slightly smaller than himself at his target. Long start up time.

  • Quake - Sticking his sword into the ground, Onion Knight channels energy though it to cause the earth under his opponent to erupt out. Compared to some of his other spells, it takes a while for this one to come into effect and can't be good for the sharpness of his blade.

  • Flare - Onion Knight summons three converging beams of energy, which he can command to explode! Unfortunately, he needs to be actively concentrating on the spell and can be easily interrupted.

However, his abilities with sword and sorcery doesn't change the fact he's still a kid and not physically tough. A good, solid hit on Onion Knight will hurt him a lot more than it would for other people (though he can be one tenacious kid), and all his spells are easily interrupted and leave him temporarily open for attack before and/or after he fires them off. Endurance fights are definitely not his forte.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
Onion Knight won't be able to class change or access his other spells in Vatheon, due to Vatheon's power drain and him not remembering everything about his life before being pulled into the war between Chaos and Cosmos. AND HIS HELMET POOFLES ADD, LIKE, ANOTHER FOOT TO HIS HEIGHT.

[ Sample ] :
When Onion Knight opened his eyes, his vision swam. Dizzy, just like when Cosmos took him away from home. Rising slowly to his feet, he fought against the heaviness in his limbs -- why was he soaked? He wasn't an idiot who'd swim in armour -- to take a look around and get his bearings. While he still didn't remember all the details about his home world, he was sure it didn't look like this! What a huge hunk o' coral, and so many shops, he wondered what these ones sol-- no, he had to stay focused!

Onion Knight glanced down at his hands. His crystal he'd been holding before he vanished... that was gone. He guessed that would happen when he faded from that world. But now he had a marking on the back of his right hand that wouldn't come off when he rubbed at it, and a glowing thing buzzing around behind him that he couldn't seem to catch.

Was the war between Cosmos and Chaos not over? No, that couldn't be it. This place didn't look anything like the broken up lands he'd fought in. Did the crystal send him to the wrong world?

...Or this was another meddling god's fault; gods never seemed to have the manners to ask.

Frowning, Onion Knight pulled off his helmet so he could wring out the water from the plumes as he considered his surroundings. If another god was the cause of this, then they would have 'demands'. But there was no sign of any. No message or disembodied voice. The glowing thing behind him wasn't a very good messenger since it wasn't talking.

Putting his helmet back on, he started wringing out the water from his cape. What was the purpose of him being here? The other people he could see didn't seem surprised at his sudden appearance. Looking around more, he could see a sign. Who put a sign welcoming visitors in the middle of a town? They were always put outside for passing travellers. People appearing as he had must be normal here. That, was downright suspicious.

Onion Knight's hand slid to the sword by his side, reassured when he felt its familiar pommel. Great! He could still defend himself. Standing around here wasn't going to do any good; he had to move forward. Find answers. The sign was a lead. Hmm... he might even find the others, if they were here, too. Besides, he could outsmart and outrun any trouble that came his way!

He nodded to himself. "Yeah," he said aloud, brimming with confidence, "I'll figure this all out!"

With that in mind, he strode off in the direction the sign indicated, water trailing behind him.

...He wasn't cold from being dripping wet. Really.

[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] :
I'm listing Onion Knight's canon as Dissidia: Final Fantasy rather than Final Fantasy 3 because the 4 nameless orphans (Onion kids) from the original FF3 don't have much in the way of personality and his characterisation in Dissidia is nothing like any of the 4 named orphans in the FF3 DS remake. Thus, I feel it's more accurate to say Dissidia is his canon, as his personality is far more defined by Dissidia than the original FF3 (and the skillset he has in Dissidia is based off the FF3 DS remake). I'll still be pulling some information from FF3 to make his background and knowledge of the FF3 world, as characters in Dissidia are supposedly yanked from their original Final Fantasy game rather than being AUs. asdf;lkj I hope this makes sense.

Also, even though he's being taken post-Dissidia, I'm saying his memories are still somewhat fragmented, to take into account for the fact he still doesn't remember his name. I hope this is okay!
