Mid-July....

Okay, the pile of tree branches has diminished by about half, thanks to several evenings of concentrated wood-chipping by Husband and myself.  Husband tried to rent a wood-chipper and couldn't -- apparently there are liability issues  involved -- so he ended up buying a small one from Home Depot.  Because the lowest price we were quoted by tree ( Read more... )

Those wood chips will attract ground termites (and until we get another string of really hard winters, yes we have the damn things here in the northern wastes). Better if your chips go in the trash (even if you have to bag 'em up and take 'em to the dump yourself. Walmart has super-duty contractor trash bags for cheap.). At the very least get some termite killer and dose the chip piles. Or mix in a good quantity of granulated bug killer. But don't just leave piles on the ground, you'll be sorry.

Duly noted, O my Moffet. We have invested in liquid termite killer and a sprayer.... and more trash bags. At least all of the actual fallen branches are rendered down now, and the large piece of trunk that split off is gradually being whittled away via chainsaw when Kent is feeling particularly grumpy with his boss.... which is quite often this summer!

Ah, the chainsaw, our fine woodlot friend... I've wound up with three of 'em. Next time I commit powered demolition, I'll dedicate the sawdust to Kent's boss. :D

So which little chipper did you get? Would be handy for trashifying the endless Siberian elm suckers (which otherwise require piling, drying, and burning) but per the reviews on Home Despot, they all suck. :(

Kent says it was a Sun-Jo, and he ordered it from Amazon.

Turns out the wood chipper actually wasn't from Home Depot -- he ordered it on-line. I'll see if I can't find out the make and model. It worked better than I thought it would -- although it clogged easily, it also cleared easily.
