i found out a couple years ago an exboyfriend, the first person i ever considered myself to be in love with, is a transgender. we haven't seen each other since 2006, and i heard about it through the grapevine, but it was still a jarring experience. it also forced me to form an opinion, since i had never really thought much about it before. i had about the same feelings as you going into it, and came out with the same conclusion. as long as your loved ones aren't harming themselves, embrace whatever they need to do to be happy and feel complete.
