Art vs Engineering

I've always said that I've had more of an engineering brain than an art brain... that doesn't mean that I don't love making things that a lot of people consider to be art but I love the mechanics of weaving and I'm learning to like the mechanics and drafting aspects of sewing too! The most successful potter in my region is an engineer. He approaches his work methodically always with an eye to improvement and efficiency. It's helped him make a living as a full time potter with the rest os us right-brainers looking on in wistful admiration.
I currently have a pottery student who is an engineering major. He made a strong, handsome lip on one of his bowls and I commented that was very unusual for a beginner (usually beginner rims/lips are weak and ugly). He said that because he is an engineer the structure was important to him.
So I say hooray for the engineering attitude!

yeah, it is like me trying to explain the difference in what is my art and what is my craft. they are so very different. i have an art brain, and a puzzle brain, but no math brain.
