The Gospels make no mention of ordinary weather
A light breeze never playfully luffs at Jesus' beard
The Sermon on the Mount is not postponed because of thunder.
Jesus never says, brothers, it's mild today
Let's walk around Lake Galilee
And just enjoy each other.
Clouds break, but that'sso the Holy Spirit can descend
At Calvary a shadow passes over the sun
A brewing storm anticipates another sign and wonder.
It's art that trains our minds
To see light shredding Easter clouds
With so many rapturous swords on that first morning.
But what if instead God
Refused the cliche?
Say it is overcast that first Easter morning:
Say when dawn breaks the rain is steady and sure
Say footprints are washed from narrow paths around the tomb
And from a storm the night before
Say earth is bleeding worms.
