[For Lee]

[Continued from here.]The walk from the Hub to the GAE was more than a little surreal to Martha, but not in any sort of negative way. She'd gone on a similar walk not so long ago for the same purpose, but the circumstances had been so completely different that they might as well have not been alike at all. She didn't want to read too much into it ( Read more... )

"More like a view of anything but the compound," Lee said. But he wasn't about to get into the reasons he lived so far from away right then, because those reasons had a lot to do with Starbuck. She was probably the last person he wanted on his mind right then, so he sure as hell wasn't about to bring her up in conversation.

It was all inane small talk, and Lee wasn't sure just how long he could keep it up.

"I'm not one to talk, really," Martha replied as they stepped into the clearing. She looked back to Lee expectantly, not knowing which hut was his. "At least you have someplace. I'm still so damned stubborn I refuse to get one," she confessed, surprised by how much easier it was to admit things like that to him. Nearly a year, and she was still spending nights on the TARDIS floor, when she slept at all. It was rather ridiculous.

Honestly, if it weren't for the circumstances, Lee might have preferred the compound. He was pretty sure that sleeping in huts was just a step or two up from mucking around on New Caprica. "Yeah, well, it was either a hut or sharing a room with a stranger," Lee said, and though he was used to close quarters, it had never been an appealing idea on the island.

"I'm this way," He said, jerking his head briefly in the direction of his hut.

"They're not so bad now, though, are they?" Martha asked as she followed. The GAE was one of the older parts of the settlement, but the newer huts might as well have been called houses. "The building crew's gotten quite good. Multiple rooms, solid craftsmanship. You can trade for furniture at the market now, did you know? Honest to God furniture, like from the store. People are amazing."
