Admittedly, an Italian restaurant was a bit of a cliché, but Pierre didn't know Santa Barbara very well, and he knew that when it came to charming women often the clichés were a cliché for good reason. She had to admit that when the cab showed up, it did send a bit of a thrill through her. It meant that the whole night had been planned out and that she had no idea what lay ahead. It was a mystery to be unraveled. She liked that.

Yes, there was a moment or two when she thought maybe she should text Shawn -- let him know, just in case. But she quickly squashed that idea. Tonight was about taking chances.

Stepping inside the restaurant, she was shown to Pierre's table right away. Seeing him, and the view outside, she smiled. Well done, Mr. Despereaux. Well done.

He rose as he saw her approach; an old fashioned gesture, but one that he believed in, not just for effect. He allowed the maître d’, or what passed as one in this place, to pull out her chair and waited for her to be seated before sitting again himself.

"My dear mademoiselle," he smiled at her, his pleasure at her company showing in the soft curve of his smile, "I am so glad that you could join me." He poured her a glass of wine without asking if she wanted it. "I trust that you like Italian food?"

The standing got him points as did the pouring of the wine. Lifting the glass to her lips, she took a small sip, nodding. "One of my favorites, actually. Thank you for the invitation."

Of course, it was, as they say, a sure fire guess that Italian food would be well recieved. Even so, he was glad that he'd made the right choice with it.

"And thank you for accepting it, the pleasure is truely mine." He smiled and picked up the menu, gesturing slightly with it. "Would you like to choose, or shall I order for you?"
