Kon wasn't sure what to think. He'd woken up from a dream where he'd been able to fly again, where he'd found Krypto, and now he didn't have those powers anymore, but Krypto was here again. Two weekends in what amounted to an enchanted sleep hadn't left Bart in the greatest of shape, which was why he was out running. He had extra water with him, but he needed to move.

The island, it seemed had other ideas.

He was forced to stop and brace himself as a familiar and unexpected white shape came bounding towards him, a crab firmly attached to one of his ears.

"I told you one of these days you'd poke your nose where it didn't belong and something would poke back," he told the dog with mock solemnity. Then he broke out in a grin. "When did you get here, boy?"

"He was here when I woke up," Kon said quietly, wondering if his voice would carry in the wind or whether Bart would even know he was there. He'd planted himself in the beach after a while and left Krypto to do his own exploring. He should have figured the dog would get into a lot of trouble.

It was Krypto's attention that keyed him on to Kon's presence, even as he knelt to remove the wayward crustacean. He smiled slightly at Kon.

"He's almost as much of a wuss about pain as you," he teased. "But since I don't see any signs of teeth or bleeding, I'll have to assume the two of you are getting along."

Kon's lips barely even twitched. "Yeah, I guess we've come to an understanding. We'll see how long the garden holds up." He shrugged and looked out at the water. "Sometimes I wonder why we even had to go back, you know? Why the island taunts us like that."
