And while I'm still mourning for Frodo and clinging to grievous_angel someone please explain the appeal of Charlie/Claire to me. I don't get it. I have friended charlie_claire out of curiosity, but... but wtf!?

Well, it's nothing too noble, I don't think.

Charlie is a drug addict, at the very least, an egomaniac, kind of pompous, but he's cute and so far on the show he's been portrayed as being very sweet-- so, this gives rise to the desire that we all have that there's good, and not just any good, but real, true goodness in people who are usually shunned by polite society. Pretty Woman had a hooker with a heart of gold, many films portray theives and hit men as following a higher moral code. Goodness only knows what Charlie did to get his heroin, or what depths he would stoop to, but here, on the island, he gets a chance to be Good with a capital G ( ... )

I think it's just the obviousness of it. The show's writers appear to be setting the two up, so the pairing in fics is as inevitable as the Jack/Kate pairing (though much more appealing because, well, it's Dom).

The other obvious appeal is the sense of salvation Claire embodies for Charlie (uh oh, Virgin Mother connections O_O). His hope for some stability post-heroin may be found via her---allowing him to refocus his addiction to drugs toward nurturing attention (toward both mother and potential baby).

Anyway, I think that's why people gobble up the pairing. Funny though, the popularity of Charlie/Claire makes me adore Charlie/Kate even more.

Because when he's around Claire, he's able to be more caring, less insouciant. Around everyone else so far, he's made point of being "I'm in a band," but not her. I think we'll find that recently, Charlie had been very self-centered - but he wasn't always that way, and Claire's condition is reminding him of that.

besides the cuteness, I like it partly because, in a way, they're both timebombs waiting to go off. Claire is a "timebomb of responsibility" and Charlie, well, he's gonna to run out of drugs soon.
