For once, David was leaving Kira's house. The brown-haired mage was looking around dubiously, as if the world outside of the house would suddenly spring up and bite him in the face. He had a laptop in a bag, hanging on his side, and was peering into buildings nervously. Biting his lower lip, he ignored some of the nearest buildings and moved on. He ( Read more... )

Luke, on the other hand, was very rarely in his house. He slept there, most nights, and sometimes made food in the mini-kitchen (which he found extremely useful-- maybe this way he'd have something to show the others when he got back!). But more often than not, the fiery-haired teenager was found outside, enjoying the sunlight with or without his Cheagle companion. Today he happened to have left Mieu at home (he'd been asleep when Luke woke up and deemed it necessary to explore).

Ever since Rukia had disappeared, he'd found himself required to be kept busy. Even with Kira's encouragement (and cookies!), it left a bit of a knot in the pit of his stomach that really made him want to curl up on the (surprisingly very comfortable) apartment bed and sleep forever. But he couldn't have that. He had Mieu to worry about, and maybe this place wasn't so bad ( ... )

David was tired. In Far North, you walked across the campus, in fairly enclosed areas to keep out the bitter cold, but it wasn't that far. Wandering far from the buildings was tantamount to suicide- it was just that cold. Frankly, David hadn't minded this restriction all too much. He wasn't much of one for venturing outside.

The mage snapped his head up at the sound of someone landing, a flurry of unexpected color out of the edges of his vision. There was a young man in front of him, crouching, with the most insane red hair he had ever seen. David pressed himself closer to his wall, the power on the building within flickering and finally cutting out entirely.

David let out a strangled, terrified squeak.

Oh shit. He should have known this was a bad idea!

About halfway to the ground, Luke had the sense to ponder whether or not this was a good idea. Or perhaps the stupidity, seeing as he was already falling with gravity to the earth and couldn't exactly do much of anything about it. He landed and he was grinning, and for almost three full seconds after his feet (quickly followed by his knees and the palm of one hand) hit the ground, he felt vaguely exposed until his hair fell in place down his back, obscuring the comical demon face on his jacket.

And he hadn't exactly expected to be met with a look of sheer terror and the tell-tale vwoom of some sort of large generator powering down. Blinking owlishly for a moment at David, he glanced up and past the mage, to a window where he had sworn there had been light on his way down. ...Huh ( ... )

David swallowed nervously, taking more than a couple seconds to process what the redhead had just said to him. He eyed the hand mistrustfully and kept his hands firmly in his lap. Okay, so the batshit redhead wasn't trying to be threatening. David gave the building behind him an irritable half-glance, nudging at it with a bare hint of his power, restoring it to the way it was before he decided to panic. The small mage drew a deep breath in through his nose, held it, and let it flow out, slow and shaky. He was calm. He was calm. He had to be calm.

"...Not really. I could find my way home if I wanted," David offered. "I'm just resting." He wiped at his forehead, scowling. He was sweating. That was just disgusting. His voice was just like his physical presence- slight. The mage got to his feet shakily, not bothering to touch Luke. "...Don't try touching me, you might get shocked." It was as close to polite as the mage was likely to get.
